Deputy Head vacancy.
This is not an administrative role—it is a hands-on leadership position.
While some paperwork is required, the Deputy Head will spend most of their time with children and staff—reading stories, joining play, supporting learning and turning interests into meaningful experiences. This role requires someone who is happy to be outdoors in all weathers, bringing a fun, bubbly personality that helps create an engaging and joyful environment for children.
The successful candidate will be a visible, energetic leader who models strong practice, inspires colleagues to stay motivated and ensures staff are effectively deployed to keep children engaged. They will encourage a culture of reflection, supporting the team to continually evaluate and improve their practice to ensure it is always in the best interests of the children.
At Bluebell, leadership happens alongside the children—in the woods, at the story circle, at the creative table and often in the mud kitchen. The Deputy Head will be supported within an established team with a high child-to-staff ratio, enabling high-quality interactions and meaningful learning experiences.
Safeguarding is central to everything we do. The Deputy Head must uphold high standards, set clear expectations and take full responsibility for embedding safeguarding in daily practice with vigilance and accountability. They must also remain professional at all times when working with parents and external agencies.
We have created an environment where children build resilience, confidence and a positive “can-do” attitude. We need a Deputy Head who reflects these qualities—genuine, dependable and calm under pressure—while also considering the needs of every child and adapting practice to meet their individual needs
