A good reader has mastered all the different elements in order to become a fluent, accurate reader. Each sub skill must be gradually developed until mastery is achieved. Our younger learners are still at the beginning stages of many of these skills hence why it can be so difficult for them to read for meaning, to read fluently and with accuracy.
Learning to read is incredibly complex! Let's change the myth that it happens effortlessly by surrounding kids with books and cozy nooks. The majority of learners need direct and explicit instruction.
