It’s not often I’m speechless… but I am absolutely blown away by the Wick Players’ performance of The Wizard of Oz! 🌈✨

What an incredible show from start to finish. The talent on that stage was just amazing!!!!

But I have to say, I was absolutely bursting with pride watching Dorothy — our very own Ava Jay ❤️😍

Ava is one of our senior dancers and young leaders, and seeing her up there absolutely owning that stage was just something else. She was absolutely outstanding. The confidence, the character, the acting, the singing, the performance JUST WOW!

And a huge well done to our lovely Daisy, who also played a part in the show. Some of our younger Wick dancers were just SO excited to see you at the end! 🥰 There were some very proud little faces!

We love seeing our dancers shine outside of Highland dancing too, and today was most certainly one of those moments.

Ava, we genuinely cannot wait to see how far you go on your acting journey. You have such a talent, and you absolutely shone. 🌟

Huge congratulations to Ava, Daisy and the entire Wick Players cast and crew. What an absolutely brilliant production! 👏🌈🎭

What a busy tour bus season we’ve had… and we’re not finished yet! ❤️

We really can’t thank Trafalgar and Insight Tours enough for keeping our dancers so busy, smiling and doing what they love... performing!

We’ve had two tours this week, but tonight’s group was something a little bit special. 🥹

A standing ovation for our dancers and piper tonight!

It really does mean the world to them. Moments like this show our dancers that what they do is special and that all those hours of learning and practising are worth it. Showing visitors from around the world a little slice of our tradition.

Even more special was seeing guests line up afterwards to take the time to speak to them, congratulate them, ask questions and even give out a few fist bumps! 👊🏻❤️

These are the moments our dancers will remember.

Very proud of them all tonight and will always be very grateful to everyone who takes the time to make them feel so special. 🥰

A huge well done to Eilidh on achieving her Choose to Lead Level 4 (SCQF4) and Green Hoodie! 🎉

This is a fantastic achievement requiring 75 hours of volunteering, alongside completing an assessed workbook and activity log and collecting evidence such as photos, videos, blog entries and planning documents.

Eilidh has worked hard throughout her volunteering at Tanya Horne School of Dance, helping to plan and deliver activities and building valuable leadership skills along the way.

A brilliant achievement, Eilidh — you should be very proud of yourself! 💚

✨ The night before competition… ✨

The preparations begin. Outfits checked, snacks packed, good fuel, plenty of water and an early night (hopefully! 🤞). There’s that mixture of excitement and nerves starting to creep in too. 💗

But tomorrow, our biggest focus is simple........ ourselves.

Every dancer walking onto that stage is on their own journey. Different goals, different challenges, different strengths and different things they’re working hard to improve.

Success isn’t defined by somebody else’s performance, somebody else’s placing or somebody else’s result. Their journey has absolutely no bearing on yours.

Instead, we look for our own wins such as a stronger performance, a correction finally clicking, more confidence, better technique, or simply having the courage to step onto that stage and try a new dance or new section ✨

Competition gives us people to dance alongside, but the person we’re really trying to better is the dancer we were yesterday.

So tomorrow make sure it's eyes on your own goals, celebrate your own progress, cheer for others, dance your very best… and let the results be just one tiny part of a much bigger journey. 💕

Your journey. Your goals. Your progress. 🩰✨

A very Happy 30th Birthday to our lovely Kirsty! 🥳🎂💗

We hope you have the most amazing day! Thank you for everything you do for our school and, most importantly, for all of our dancers. The kids absolutely adore you, and we are so lucky to have you as such a special part of our dancing family.

Happy 30th Kirsty! We all love you lots! 💕🥂✨

Did you know... 🤔

Pas de basque is French for ‘step of the Basques.’ It was named after the dancing of the Basque people and eventually became a step used in lots of different styles of dance including Highland dancing.

Can you do a pas de basque?!

Sometimes you’re just not quite big enough to join in… but nobody told her wellie boots that! ❤️

Watching her big sister dancing at an event this week, she stood at the side and quietly joined in with every step she could, determined to be part of it all.

For now, she’ll keep watching, copying and practising in those wellies… but we have a feeling it won’t be too long before she’s out there beside her big sister.

Some little ones learn to dance. Some just look like they were born to. 🥰

We’ve had a really busy few weeks providing entertainment for visitors to Caithness on their bus tour holidays, and we’ve absolutely loved it!

As we start to wind down for the season, we thought it was the perfect time to share some lovely, happy photos from the evenings we’ve had. 🥰🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

We’re normally very lucky to have Tanya’s son Will piping for our dancers, but with Will unavailable this week, we were delighted to have Jamie Mackay from Wick Pipe Band join us instead. A huge thank you to Jamie for stepping in and helping us give our visitors a proper taste of Caithness and Scottish entertainment!

Lots of happy dancers, happy visitors and some really lovely evenings. A great way to start rounding off another busy summer season. ❤️
