Purple Class have been learning about Florence Nightingale and her work as the founder of modern nursing, particularly during the Crimean War. We explored the conditions of the hospital when Florence first arrived and carefully considered the equipment and resources that would have been needed to tackle the many challenges she and her team of nurses faced at Scutari Hospital.

Using the Mantle of the Expert approach as a vehicle for immersive learning, the children stepped into the roles of Florence's nursing team. Through drama and role-play, they entered the hospital, experienced the challenging conditions first hand, and worked together to identify problems, make decisions, and care for the wounded soldiers. This hands-on experience helped the children develop a deeper understanding of Florence Nightingale's remarkable achievements and the lasting impact of her work on modern healthcare Mantle of the Expert

Year 3 have had a fantastic day full of fun and creativity! They put their teamwork and problem-solving skills to the test by building marshmallow and spaghetti towers, got artistic by creating some beautiful summer ice cream pictures, and enjoyed some extra time exploring outdoors. To round off a wonderful day, everyone relaxed with a film and some popcorn – the perfect way to end a fun-filled day!💚💙

As part of Blue Class's Mantle of The Expert lessons, they worked tirelessly to care for the wounded soldiers and fight for cleaner and better equipped hospitals. Under the supervision of Florence Nightingale the team nursed the soldiers back to health. More importantly, cleanliness, hygiene and fresh air became a must have for all hospitals 💚💙 Mantle of the Expert

As the tired children make their way home we would like to thank our exhausted Bradshaw team. Without the magical team, the trip wouldn’t have happened!

We have rewarded the staff with Thursday and Friday off 😉😂
