Joe makes a fantastic return to racing! 🏃‍♂️

This weekend saw a brilliant return to competition for one of our Sporting Excellence students, Joe, at the FRA Junior Uphill Championships.

The race was uphill from start to finish, making it a tough challenge, but Joe raced well - leading the pack for a time before finishing 2nd in the U18 category.

It was Joe’s first race back since a particularly tough injury back in July, so this was a great way to ease back into competition. He’s now back to full training and working towards getting back to his best ahead of the next fell running season, and we're so pleased to be supporting him as part of the programme.

Next up for Joe is the English Schools Fell Running Championships, for which we wish him the very best of luck and can't wait to see how he gets on!

🏉 Exciting News for Hasnain! 🏉

A huge congratulations to Hasnain, who has signed his second-year contract with Bradford Bulls! 👏

Hasnain will continue his rugby journey with the club, competing and developing at this level as he works towards his ambition of progressing into the Elite Academy.

It’s fantastic to see his hard work, commitment and talent being rewarded, and we’re incredibly proud to see a Crossley Heath student continuing to progress in the sport he loves.

Congratulations, Hasnain, we can’t wait to follow the next chapter of your rugby journey! 💜🏉🐂

Last week, we visited Leeds Beckett University for the first official activity of our new Sporting Excellence Programme.

Our students, who compete across an incredible range of sports including cycling, athletics, fell running, cricket, rugby, netball, figure skating and badminton, headed to the Carnegie School of Sport for a fantastic day of fitness testing, utilising the university’s state-of-the-art facilities, equipment and expertise.

The next step is for each student’s data to be reviewed against benchmarks for their sport and age, before a personalised development plan is created for them. These plans will take into account their existing training commitments, any injuries and their individual sporting goals. 💪

We’ll then return to Leeds Beckett at the end of the academic year to review their progress and see how far they’ve come!

It was a brilliant day and a fantastic start to the programme. We can’t wait to get properly underway!

🎂🌍 House Cake Competition – International Day of Languages! 🌍🎂

As part of our celebrations for International Day of Languages, students put their creativity (and baking skills!) to the test in our fantastic House Cake Competition!

We were incredibly impressed by the imagination and effort that went into every entry, with cakes inspired by countries, cultures and languages from across Europe. After some very difficult judging, our top five were:

🥇 1st – Alex (Queens) – Italian Meatball Cake 🇮🇹
🥈 2nd – Naomi (Savile) – German Stein Mug Cake 🇩🇪
🥉 3rd – Jasmine (Savile) – French Postcard Cake 🇫🇷
🏅 4th – Christopher (Kings) – Italian Pizza Cake 🇮🇹
🏅 5th – Ben (Savile) – European Flag Cookies 🇪🇺

A huge well done to our winners and to everyone who got involved. What a brilliant (and delicious!) way to celebrate languages, cultures and creativity at Crossley Heath! 💜👏🎂

🎨🏉🎵 Something for Everyone at Crossley Heath! 🎵🏉🎨

Life at Crossley Heath is about so much more than what happens in lessons! Our extra and super-curricular programme gives students a huge range of opportunities to discover new interests, develop their talents, challenge themselves and, most importantly, have fun.

Throughout the week, students can get involved in everything from sport, music and performing arts to STEM, languages, technology and creative activities. Whether it's rugby, netball, football or badminton; choir, band or music groups; baking, chess, Eco Club, Chinese Culture Club or one of our academic stretch and support sessions – there really is something for everyone.

⚔️ And for those who enjoy strategy, creativity and tabletop gaming, our Warhammer Club runs with Mr Brownlie every Friday in VA5 – as you can see from the photos, there's plenty of concentration involved!

We're incredibly proud of the breadth of opportunities available to our students and hugely grateful to the staff who give their time to make these clubs possible! 💜👏

Competing on the international stage is an incredible achievement in itself, and coming away with a gold medal makes the occasion even more special.
