🧵✨ 5 Willow Get Creative with DT! ✨🧵
As part of their DT unit, 5 Willow have been putting their sewing skills to the test by designing and creating their very own tote bags! 👜
The children began by designing their bags, carefully choosing their materials and thinking about how they wanted their finished product to look. They then selected wool and fabric to create their handles before using a range of sewing techniques to bring their designs to life.
They used overcast stitch to securely attach the appliqué material, as well as backstitch and running stitch to create the shape and structure of their bags. Their patience, precision and creativity really shone through, and they should all be incredibly proud of their finished designs. 🌟
To finish off their project, the children even had the chance to style their tote bags on the catwalk!👜 A fantastic way to showcase their hard work and creativity.

📸 Photography 📸
5 Willow have been exploring the fascinating history of photography! We began our unit by looking at a famous photograph of Queen Victoria and her family, which was created using the early principles of the camera obscura, and had a go at recreating the photo ourselves looking carefully at body positioning and facial expressions!
We were surprised to discover that the image was not a single photograph at all, but a photomontage – a picture made by combining lots of different photographs into one final image. This inspired us to investigate how artists and photographers can create entirely new images by bringing together different visual elements.
Using cut-outs from newspapers and magazines, the children then created their own imaginative photomontages. They carefully selected, arranged and combined images to tell stories, create unusual scenes and express their creativity. Well done, 5 Willow, for your creativity and enthusiasm throughout this exciting project! 🌟📷✂️

Year 5 London Adventure! 🇬🇧✨
Year 5 Willow had a fantastic time in London! The children enjoyed an exciting trip packed with memorable experiences, from seeing some of the capital’s most famous landmarks to confidently tackling journeys on the London Underground. 🚇
We watched the spectacular The Lion King in the West End, which left everyone amazed by the incredible costumes, music and performances. 🦁🎭
A highlight of the visit was the privilege of taking a tour of the Houses of Parliament, where they learned about how laws are made and the important role Parliament plays in the UK. 🏛️
It was a wonderful opportunity for learning, independence and making lasting memories. Well done, Year 5 Willow, for being excellent ambassadors for our school! ⭐

🌟 Student Spotlight 🌟
A huge well done to Noah in Year 5, who has absolutely wowed his teachers with a fantastic piece of writing linked to their class book, This Morning I Met a Whale.
Noah thoughtfully explored three important messages the whale passed on to Michael about how humans are damaging our planet and the habitats of many animals . His writing was filled with ambitious vocabulary, powerful imagery, and a truly beautiful way with words.
The rest of 5 Willow listened carefully as his work was read aloud and were amazed by how vividly Noah’s writing painted a picture of the important messages the whale was explaining.
We are so proud of Noah’s creativity and talent, and we cannot wait to see where his writing journey takes him as he progresses into Year 6! ✨📚🐋
