Whoosh was established in 2013 with the simple aim of sharing my passion for biking and helping more people get active and hooked on the buzz of a good ride out. The logical progression was to deliver Mountain Bike rides and instruction as well as the National Standard/Bikeability training and on-road rides that I started with. Off-road riding provides thrills, challenge and a sense of achievement
like little else and I love seeing that grin appear as a new skill sinks in, technical trail section gets cleared or the memories of an eventful big day out are re-run over post-ride tea and cake. Since then I've built a comprehensive set of qualifications and experience in MTB ride leadership and instructing to complement 30+ years of riding. As a qualified National Standard Cycle Instructor, MIAS MTB Instructor and British Cycling Level 3 MTB Leader I can guide you from your very first turn of the pedals through to taming the trails of some of the UK's best off-road riding. I bring together professionalism, technical ability and being a generally personable guy to deliver inspiring cycling sessions, nurturing confidence and putting you at ease whilst gently expanding your boundaries. I emphasise enjoyment first and, through that, progression - It's supposed to be fun after all…! I'm based in Hebden Bridge, with access to stunning countryside and fantastic trails of all sorts from the doorstep, but also central to all of the best riding in the North of England with Lee Quarry just 30 mins away, the Dales, Peak District, Gisburn, Rivington, The East Lancs Moors, Lake District, Dalby North Yorks Moors and even North Wales all doable as a day trip. It's a pretty fantastic place for anyone who's obsessed with riding bikes! Who are you? Whoosh MTB is a One-man-band type of outfit run by Chris Kilburn. I started out as just a regular trail rider, and, apart from a bit of training in how to be a better rider myself, First Aid, Navigation, Trailside Repair and all the soft skills that make for a quality guiding or instructing experience for you guys, that's what I still am. I'm no racer, although I've occasionally dabbled, and enjoy the challenge of a tricky slow tech trail or relaxing on a casual cruisy ride as much as flat out PB chasing. I've always loved working on my technical skills and feeling the benefit in the options that opens up, the lines I can take and the fun I can have on the trail. I see that progression as an ongoing and limitless journey we are all on and I'm lucky and stoked to be able to use my experience to help others get further along their own path to riding the way they wish they could.
