Our Creative Writing Club were having a brilliant time this lunchtime, working on world-building and devising places of their own design.

It was also great to see Ella, who helps Mr Manby and Dr Dickinson run the club, supporting younger students – just one example of the many opportunities our sixth formers have to demonstrate leadership.

Creative Writing is just one of the many clubs running at lunchtime, giving students the chance to discover new interests, develop their talents and try something different.

This week, our sixth formers have also been sharing their own experiences in an assembly – from music, sport and chess to science, Dungeons & Dragons, Poetry by Heart, debating, Ski Club and Art Club. Hearing what they’ve taken part in over the years was a brilliant reminder of just how much there is to get involved in at NHGS.

We hope it inspires even more students to have a go at something new this year.

⚽ U15 Girls' Football

What a performance from our U15 girls yesterday! They put on a real show, coming away with a brilliant 12–3 victory against Boston Spa. 🙌

Goals, determination, energy and plenty of smiles summed up an impressive team performance, with the girls showing great attacking play, teamwork and commitment from start to finish.

A fantastic result — well done, girls!

U14 Girls' Football
Our U14 team played their first round of the West Yorkshire Cup and played in an end to end game against Ryburn. With the final whistle being blown at 1-1 the game went straight to penalties. NHGS came out with the win, winning 9-8 on penalties! A great team effort from all the players, well done and onto the second round they go. Mrs Davis ⚽️

Students in Year 7 and Year 8 were treated to a performance from our senior choir, NHGS Choral, last week. In addition, Mr Marston (our Head of Faculty responsible for Music) spoke to them about the benefits of singing and playing an instrument, and intoduced the extensive offer of exciting musical activities we have at NHGS for students. Students also heard recordings of the NHGS Singers and Big Band as they came in and out of the Theatre. As Lead School for Music in Calderdale, and a MusicMark accredited centre, we are proud of all our student musicians do and how many opportunities there are for them to get involved in Music at school.
