Pretty excited about this book.....im hopeful it contains all the questions, responses, scenarios and advice I might need to address and and support the children I teach, and my own kids at home, to negotiate the multitude of messages that surrounds us in regard to ‘race’ and racism. “gives advice in an accessible manner on how to tackle tricky conversations around race and racism with confidence and awareness”. Key for me, is enabling young children (and myself!) to know how to address any unfairness that we might see or encounter. Can’t wait to get started 😊

Air pollution kills 64,000 people in the UK every year, but the uk government continues to provide annual fossil fuel subsidies of £10.5 billion, according to the European Commission. To meet Uk climate targets, the government must end this practice and reduce greenhouse gases by Introducing charges on the producers of greenhouse gases.
Of that doesn’t convince you to sign, then think about this: My neighbours child, on leaving primary school in a weeks time, is walking from Hebden Bridge to London to raise awareness was of this issue. This kid knows exactly how much his life will be affected if the government doesn’t change current practices. They aren’t trying to raise money by completing this 300 mile walk, but awareness of the issue by asking local mp’s to join in on stretches of the walk and discuss the carbon tax. Ahhhhh 🎈💙❤️💚Love....this book appeals to me on so many levels: it’s beautiful illustrations, it’s text, the way it links generations and tells the story of a loving relationship; the hold is not explicitly referred to as he/she as it doesn’t matter (and is not illustrated in a gendered way), that the love happens to be between two males, again not referred to explicitly but just embedded as the story; its about love lost and grief and sadness but is celebratory in its acknowledgment of this. Anyway I blimmin love it and so does my three year old. Absolute winner! Another book bought from on their advice. Gorgeous illustrations by Garry Parsons really make this book stand out, just like Frankie wants to, except all the flamingoes look just like him! I don’t usually go for books that have animals as the main characters but I like the message in this book that being confident about who you are beyond what you look like is great. Bought from
And let me know, one for schools or should our high quality texts all feature representations of people rather than animals?

I had a conversation with a good friend the other day, who wondered how to raise a conversation with her child about all the types of families in our world, after they had been discussing wether families ‘just happen’ or if you got to choose who was in your family. “Through a book of course” I promptly replied. 📚 This book is incredibly simple, leaving it open to discuss all the families it introduces. It’s so important to mention that you can’t tell how people are related just by looking at them, because family members don’t necessarily look like each other: but perhaps we can assume a group is a family by the way we see them relate to each other, with warmth, kindness and affection 😊
This fab book is the loveliest exploration of families and shows children, opening up those all important conversations that there are many ways to be a family.

In My Mosque

author and

Loved reading this to my nursery class today, (and even better that the year two teacher was then able to read it with her class after a debate they’d had about the skin colour of Muslims and Christians). It’s a really joyful book that invites everyone in; to learn and celebrate Muslim people and families, Islam and mosques, from all across the world. I particularly liked the emphasis on community and link with other religions that also focus on community, kindness and consideration for others. The illustrations by (of The Proudest Blue) are truly diverse which really emphasises the point that everyone is truly welcome In My Mosque. Just been gifted this beauty by ‘Indiana Bones’ about a shaggy dog with superpowers and his friend Aisha who seek out mysteries to solve. My kids all loved the books Shiny Pippin written by the same author, so can’t wait to start reading this one.

We’ve been reading this book on repeat and I’m so glad I can name a whole bunch of revolutionary female artists from all around the world in addition to the few household names we all know, and can say a little bit about what they created. Looking forward to going to next week to enjoy ‘s biggest collection of work ever put together. (Image shows cover of book ‘women artists A to Z’ with illustration of artists portrayed) .labarge
