Outstanding early years provision for children aged 2-4 years in the heart of the picturesque Shibden

We are a small and friendly early years setting based within Salterlee school. Our highly qualified team of teachers work in partnership with our families to ensure children the best start possible on their learning journey. We make the most of the wonderful learning opportunities that nature provides by spending as much time as we can outdoors. We plan Adventure walks for the children through the beautiful Shibden Valley observing the changing seasons.

Exploring quantities and consistencies as the children mixed mud and water to create their paints. They found sticks to use as their mark making tools and created some amazing art work!

Lots of fine motor challenges as they dug up the mud with small handled tools, dipped their sticks into the mud and created their masterpieces!

The children went foraging for holly across the valley to prepare for a Christmas center piece activity, a wonderful learning experience linking nature with creativity.

There were also gingerbread decorations to be made and a delicious snack of mince pies and gingerbread.

Stay and play sessions are a great opportunity for children to foster their sense of self and identity and to share their learning with their families.

We wish all our families a very Merry Christmas. πŸŽ…

A lovely start to the new school year. β˜€οΈ

This week we have been blackberry picking across shibden valley, a fantastic seasonal activity that fosters children’s understanding of nature, growth and early science. And of course we popped in to say hello to the alpacas and sheep to introduce them to all our new children. πŸ¦™

We have used the blackberries for mark making media, a great edible art experiences as children mash and squash the berries creating different shades of purple and pink. πŸͺ»

We also added the blackberries to our play dough, enhancing the sensory experience of dough play with added colours, textures and scents. 🌸

Next week we will be making delicious blackberry crumble! πŸ₯§
