A reminder that term time only children break up this Friday for the 6 week Summer holidays.

Term time only children will return back to nursery from Wednesday 2nd September 😊

We have found a ring in the nursery grounds, if anyone has lost one drop us a message or give us a call 🙂

We hope you are all enjoying the sun, we just wanted to pop on to let you of how we’ve been staying cool in nursery and keeping the building as cool as possible.

The children, as always, have cold water available continuously throughout their days at nursery, while it’s been so hot we are ensuring children are drinking even small amounts every 30 mins as well as plenty of ice pops morning and afternoon.

We are avoiding the sun as much as possible, letting the children play in cooler shaded areas only early in morning around 9am and strictly limiting this time, not returning outside for the remainder of the day. When outside, even though it’s for a very short period of time, children wear a sun hat and sun cream is applied.

We are avoiding exercise, instead we have lots of cold water and ice activities! Providing children with opportunities to get fully wet to their hearts content, keeping nice and cool and having lot fun. (Spray bottles and ice cold water has been a dream!)

When we are inside, the blinds are closed as well as the windows, if the air entering the building is hot. Every room has a thermometer so we can monitor the room temperature closely.

Turn off the lights where possible and encourage the children have a little calm time, time to lay down, rest and staying in cooler areas/rooms within nursery and avoiding the upstairs of the building.

Here’s a few ideas on how to keep everyone cooler as home.

️❄️The Ice-Fan Trick: Place a bowl of ice or a frozen bottle of water directly in front of an electric fan to blow chilled mist around the room.

️❄️Reverse Bedding: Fill a hot water bottle with water and freeze it, then place it under their pillowcase before bedtime for a soothing, chilled surface

❄️Cool Zones: Move playtime to lower levels of the house or create indoor blanket dens using damp sheets

❄️Lukewarm Baths: Have them take a lukewarm (not cold) bath or shower before bed to reduce their core temperature.

❄️Water-Heavy Foods: Keep children hydrated by serving snacks with high water content, such as watermelon (92%), cucumbers (96%), and tomatoes (95%).

❄️Homemade Ice Pops: Freeze blended fruit, smoothies, or diluted fruit juice into lollies.

❄️Safe Sleep Safe Airflow: Use a room thermometer to monitor the room and ensure air circulates. If using a fan, ensure it is placed out of reach and not pointed directly at the child.

❄️Reduce Layers: In extreme heat, babies and young children may only need to sleep in a nappy with no extra bedding.

Today we had another very special visit from our nursery Therapy dog, Nancy 🥰

Nancy is a 2 year old Cockapoo who often visits nursery, as well as other settings such as residential care homes due to her having such a loving, calm, gently nature.

She is very little pampered pooch who loves treats, snuggles, playing and being around children and adults is what she loves best.

🐾 We decided to introduce animal visits into nursery a few years back due to each experience having such a positive impact on each child’s learning. They can significantly boost learning by reducing anxiety, increasing motivation, and emotional regulation.

❤️ Having Nancy visit nursery provides a calm presence that helps children improve communication, social skills, build confidence, promote relaxation, focus and develop empathy!
