Aren’t mathematical manipulatives fantastic?!

We asked two children to solve 26 + 17 using manipulatives… and the results were fascinating!
Both base 10 and the rekenrek are powerful tools for helping children see the maths and build deep conceptual understanding. But when it comes to efficiency, you might spot that one of these tools gave the children a quicker, clearer pathway than the other!
