Decoding a story can be tiring for children - especially after a full day of school! πͺ
Echo reading bypasses the decoding element of reading while still supporting your child with their fluency π₯³
Try adding some echo reading to your routine and let me know how you get on! π

Supply can be stressful! But here are some tips I've picked up to help your day run smoothly π€
01/12/2022
Simple activities for initial sounds intervention:
1. Spread sounds out on floor/furniture. "Can you find...?" After 3 sounds say "Look we've made a word! Can you help me read it?" Children sound talk and blend "p-i-g pig"
π€·ββοΈIf they struggle, model sound-talk with increasing speed to support blending
2. Fast finger. "Point to..." Children put finger on sound as fast as possible.
π€·ββοΈReduce cognitive load by only using sounds children know, plus one they don't
3. If certain sounds are a sticking point, use picture side as a prompt. As they become more accurate you can start to turn them over.
π€·ββοΈIf children still find it tricky, reduce the number of sounds - you may even need to go as low as 2/3 sounds!

Over the moon with the progress these kids have made in the past 3 weeks! π₯³
Have also gained some really useful insights into speech and language issues that are creating huge barriers to blending for some - hopeful they can get extra support with this now that there's more evidence π
Let's keep the momentum going and end the term on a high!π

I've been asked to help this lovely lot pass their phonics resit next month...
Got my work cut out for me with all these gaps! BUT I'm already seeing improvements and having an absolute blast supporting them π

Don't panic! Don't panic! π€―
Easier said than done though right?π
But following these steps should hopefully take a little bit of the stress out of it β€οΈ

There's more to writing a simple sentence than you think!βοΈ
1. Rehearse the sentence
2. Remember which word comes first
3. Oh! Don't forget to start with a capital letter!
4. Okay, what sounds make the first word?
5. Right. I know the sounds...what does that first sound look like?
6. Oh yeah...now to write down those letters...wait how do I form that one again..?
Notice how we havenβt even got past the first word yet?π±
For some children, making that transition between writing words and writing sentences is just too much - cue cognitive overload!π
Sentence scramble reduces the number of steps needed for success and scaffolds children's learning.π₯³
