One of the things that most people were never taught about in school is the difference between the conscious and subconscious mind.
Conscious minds: the rational, pragmatic, fact-based parts of us that are very much present
Subconscious mind: holds our memories, feelings, emotions.
The creative part of our minds that doesn’t recognise the difference between, fact and fiction, imagination, and reality.
It’s also the part of us that keeps us alive and safe.
That's where hypnotherapy comes in.
Hypnotherapy facilitates healing and transformation of the root causes of issues like feelings of anxiety, phobias, ‘imposter syndrome’, procrastination, empowering individuals to reframe their perceptions, overcome obstacles and create change in the areas of life that matter most to them.

Having grown up with a headteacher mum, teaching was very much the everyday language we used.
Following in my mums teacher as a classroom practitioner and senior leader in both mainstream and special schools, I consider training as one of my zones of genius. So today being privileged to support therapists in developing their businesses blended my skills of teaching with my passion for transformation.
Here’s what one of the therapists commented - excited to see how her business grows.
"Having spent time with Viv, doing this course has grown in confidence. I can see through the trees now. I feel that I have a clearer understanding of what I need to do to build my business but also the belief that I can build a successful business. Viv has helped me recognize my skill set through my life experience and how to utilize this.
I would highly recommend Viv and her courses and can't wait to undertake another one with her. She is amazing."

As future hypnotherapists, remember: the mind is a powerful tool, but it can also create unhelpful patterns.
Sometimes the thing that we think is creating patterns of behaviours we don’t want any more, isn’t what we thought it was.
A young person who was tired of washing their hands over and over and over realised that something tragic that had happened had triggered this way of coping. This highlights the importance of exploring the root causes of our behaviors.
In our training, you'll learn how to guide clients in uncovering these hidden patterns and creating lasting change. 🔓

At a conference in Birmingham, I was reminded of the phrase ‘Trauma Informed,’ something that’s stayed with me for years. When I first trained as a counsellor, it became clear that knowing about trauma wasn’t enough — real support required the depth that only experience and focused learning could provide.
That realization led me to pursue additional training, adding tools like EMDR and trauma-based therapy to my practice.
At Life Edit Academy, we go beyond just information. Our upcoming cohort is about equipping practitioners with both the knowledge and the practical skills needed to meet clients where they are — emotionally, mentally, and spiritually — and help them heal and move forward.
If this resonates with you, we’d love to have you join our next cohort.

Interesting conversation during a recent conference in Birmingham...
It involved a phrase that I've been mulling over in my mind for some time - 'Trauma Informed'.
When I qualified as a Counsellor one of the driving factors was that some years before I had been participating in a group call with a coach who when asked a particular question replied that the although they felt they were ‘informed’ – had knowledge or information about the ‘issue’, the person would need to seek support from a qualified counsellor rather than a coach – a counsellor being viewed as someone who would know what to do rather than just know about the situation. Me being me, decided that no way was I ever going to feel underqualified in supporting someone who had mustered up the courage to voice their worries, challenge, concerns.
Consequently, I added Counselling at a level that qualified me to work with clients including 100 hours of placement working with clients, personal therapy and personal supervision, to my already bulging therapeutic tool kit.
Feeling that this qualification didn't include as much training around the vital area of trauma-based support and how I could best make a difference in this area, I engaged in additional learning. This included weekend conferences led by trainers such as Caroline Spring, additional qualifications – EMDR and Trauma Based Therapy and online CPD opportunities too.
Always the criteria for engaging in this additional learning was… will this lead to me in being in a position where I can be with the client where they are as a result of what happened to them, create a safe and trustworthy relationship that supports them emotionally, spiritually and mentally and provide the opportunity for them to resolve and heal from choices that they made or were made for them, to take back the control of the way they feel about themselves and their lives.
So, ‘informed’: having or showing knowledge of a subject or situation. I have lots of knowledge about all sorts of subjects and situations, my mind being a reservoir of information. I’m nail technician informed – I paint my own nails, I’m dog walking informed – I walk my dog, I’m driving in Europe informed as I often drive in France and Spain. However, would any of this information give me the experience or tools to delve into how and why and what about any of these opportunities?
I even recognise that although my early life, childhood and teenage years could be regarded as ‘normal’ in many respects there were incidents along the way that had ‘upset’ me and my nervous system so could have been described as ‘traumatic’. Living with these experiences and getting on with getting on, dumbed down my emotions and prevented me from recognising trauma even when a big incident that shook my world hit me. These lived experiences giving me further information and knowledge about trauma yet without any perceived tangible transferable skills and tools to support others with.
So instead of being merely ‘informed’ about trauma, I recognise that I take the information I have learned, combine it with the skills and tools I have gained and use it to answer and respond to the needs of each individual client in a highly personalised way, to meet them where they are without blame or shame and in partnership journey with them to where, what or how, they would rather be.

Do you ever experience making life more difficult for yourself than you need to?
I don't know if you're familiar with the IKEA storage system IVAR - it's been my go to way to create spaces to keep things since the only IKEA store in the UK was in Warrington and that must be at least 34 years ago going by the age of my eldest son and where we lived at the time.
So today in my ongoing attempt to support my middle son in living in a more organised space I was rejigging the storage that was already there. However, I was determined to continue using the manual screwdriver rather than the ready charged electric one that was downstairs.
After having had shelves drop onto my head a couple of times and almost letting the job getting the better of me, believing I needed 4 hands instead of 2 I retrieved the electric screwdriver. 5 minutes later the back braces were secured, the shelves and rails ready to be replaced and reloaded and the task complete.
The moral of this story is...
Instead of pigheadedly trying to keep going and banging your head literally - step outside the box, breathe and swap tools 🙂
PS - all was completed with time to spare before my client session today during which this feedback was shared with me.

We’ve talked about what metaphors are - those clever comparisons that paint vivid pictures in our minds. But how do they actually work their magic? 🤔
✨ Creating Connections: Metaphors bridge complex emotions and thoughts with relatable images, helping you see things from a fresh perspective.
✨ Easing Resistance: Your mind becomes more open to positive change when guided by metaphors, like slipping past your inner gatekeeper.
✨ Facilitating Change: By reframing challenges, metaphors empower you to visualise and embrace new ways of thinking and feeling.
