Repair or replace your heat press? It’s not always an easy call.

A few things can make the decision clearer: how old is the machine, how much will the repair cost, is the heat still consistent, is the pressure reliable, and are faults becoming more frequent?

If you’re spending more time fixing the press than using it, that’s usually a pretty good sign it’s time to look at a replacement.

Getting a poor transfer? Don’t change pressure, temperature and time all at once. You won’t know which adjustment actually fixed the problem.

A better approach is:

1. Check temperature → 2. Adjust pressure → 3. Fine-tune pressing time

Change one setting at a time, then test the result. It makes troubleshooting much easier and helps you find the right combination for your material.

Temperature depends heavily on the material you’re working with — and this is where a lot of inconsistent results start.

Here’s a simple reference based on commonly used blanks:

• Polyester T-shirts: around 190–205°C
• Cushion covers (polyester blends): 190–200°C
• Ceramic mugs: 180–200°C depending on coating
• Polymer coasters: 180–190°C
• Mouse mats: 190–200°C
