🌊 We’ve been enjoying lots of ocean-themed books lately.

There’s something lovely about watching a theme come to life through stories. One book sparks a question, another reminds us of something we’ve seen before, and before long we’re talking about sea creatures, beaches, boats and all sorts of things beneath the waves.

I think that’s why I love themed book collections so much. They help children make connections, revisit ideas and explore their interests in a way that feels natural and fun.

These are some of the books that inspired our first Little Oaks Library collection. šŸ“ššŸš

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been sharing little snippets of me working behind the scenes, bringing Little Oaks Library to life šŸ“š

But before Little Oaks Library was ever an idea, books were already a huge part of our everyday life.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that books seem to find their way into almost everything we do. They sit alongside our play, inspire our invitations to explore, come with us on adventures, and are often the starting point for conversations, questions, and new interests.

I’ve loved children’s books for as long as I can remember. I loved them as a child, and now as a parent I find so much joy in sharing beautiful stories with my own children.

Over the years, I’ve spent countless hours searching for books that connect with the seasons, children’s interests, and the things they are naturally noticing in the world around them. The kind of books that are read again and again, long after the season has passed.

Little Oaks Library has grown from that love.

Each month, I’ll be sharing thoughtfully curated collections of seasonal children’s books, inspired by the things children are naturally noticing, exploring, and bringing into their play at that time of year.

Books chosen with care, to help families spend less time searching and more time reading, playing, and making memories together.

Thank you for all of the encouragement, messages, and support so far. Seeing your excitement for this little idea has meant so much šŸ¤

Launching very soon ✨

I’ve been slowly bringing this together… a small, thoughtfully chosen collection of books designed to sit alongside play, not overwhelm it.

Each one chosen with intention, to be returned to again and again.

Starting with a seaside & ocean theme 🌊

Just a few carefully chosen stories, thoughtfully brought together.

Designed to complement the kind of play we naturally fall into at this time of year.

I’ll be sharing a little more about how this will work very soon 🐚

Ive been building something that complements the kind of play we naturally find ourselves enjoying at this time of year… a small collection of books inspired by seaside days and ocean adventures 🌊

The kind that sit naturally alongside play, adding to it quietly.

A few shells, a story, maybe some sand… and suddenly there’s more to explore, more to imagine, and more to connect to real life.

This is the first theme I’ve been working on and it already feels like a lovely place to begin 🐚

I’ve always shared the books we’ve loved alongside our play… with my 4 and 1 year old, I see so often how they connect their ideas, learning, and imagination to the stories we read.

They shape so much of how children explore, imagine, and make sense of the world.

Books feel like such a beautiful tool and something worth choosing well.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about this more intentionally… how books sit alongside play, and how to share that in a simple way.

It’s part of something I’ve been working on, a way to add a little more depth to play.

I’ll share a little more soon šŸ¤

Today is World Bee Day šŸ

A simple invitation to play…

Just a few open-ended elements, to be explored in different ways, alongside a beautiful book to deepen curiosity and support learning.

Scooping, transferring, imagining, storytelling… all led by the child.

A few intentional resources can lead to play that feels truly meaningful 🌿

Democracy, but make it bedtime stories šŸ—³ļøāœØ

With the library closed for polling today, we created our own little ā€œstory voteā€ to help explain what voting means.
One very excited voter later… and a new request to vote on our next holiday šŸ˜‚
