OLSK Acorns

This week at OLSK Acorns our topic is 'Around the world' 🌍 the children have the opportunity to learn about different countries! A lot of fun has been had so far and some of our children had a go at learning how to say "Hello" in different languages this morning 😄 watch this space for more updates on this topic!! 🇬🇧🇮🇪🇮🇹🇮🇴

The children have thoroughly enjoyed Talent show week 👏 🎉 we've seen so many different acts during Breakfast and After school club such as dancing, singing, magic shows, violin solos and more!! Each child that took part was awarded with a certificate and children voted for the winners during each of the 3 final shows! So much fun was had by all and its been great to see so much happiness and confidence from all of our children! Well done to you all ⭐️⭐️

We would also like to say well done to our Year 6 children for getting through their SATS week 👏

⭐️ OLSK Acorns's got talent ⭐️

This week the children have had the chance to express their talent. They have signed up, prepped some props and practiced their performances ready for tomorrow and Friday 🥇🥈🥉

Tomorrow David Attenborough turns 100 years old 🎂 and to celebrate it we have set up 2 tables for the children to explore. We will be looking at all of his achievements, thinking of how we can keep our planet healthy, learning some words that are associated with his achievements and colouring his portrait 😀🌍🦍

The children have thoroughly enjoyed carrying on with our Easter topic this week with the following activities..

🐰 Paper plate bunnies and chick crafts
🐣 Cross crafts
🥚 Making Easter jigsaws

As well as this the children have enjoyed an indoor Easter egg hunt and had a go at an egg and spoon challenge 🥚 our daily provision is kept interesting and current for the children and they also find their own ways to build on their interests using the resources available!

When we return after the holidays we will be celebrating topics such as 'Art week' and 'History week' 😀

This week we have began our Topic Spring/Easter whilst also celebrating St Patrick's day and Red nose day! 🌈🌦

The children have enjoyed the arts and crafts on offer supporting this as well as taking part in group games initiated by staff and also child led Easter eggs hunts! 🥚🥚we have also thoroughly enjoyed getting outdoors to enjoy the sunshine!

Next week we will carry on our Easter topic with more fun activities! 🐰🐣

PEOPLE WHO HELP US WEEK 👩‍⚕️
👩‍🏫 Teachers role play
🦷 Being dentists and having a go at brushing our laminated teeth sheets and discuss how we can keep our teeth healthy
🩺 Doctors and nurses station making stethoscopes and practicing good hand washing
🚛 Small world play recycling station organising card and plastic into the right containers
👷‍♀️ The children were also encouraged to look at other people who help us and make posters about them and talking about anyone they know in those roles!

We have also held a World book day art competition today! Children had the chance to design a bookmark or a book cover to win a prize 📚📚

To mark childrens mental health week we have provided some conversation starter activities for the children to get talking to eachother about themselves, their emotions and how they can help others ☺️💜

⚠️ URGENT RECALL: Hobbycraft Giant Box of Craft

Hobbycraft is recalling a box of mixed craft supplies containing vials of coloured sand due to a potential health risk.

The sand may be contaminated with a small amount of asbestos, which can be harmful even at low levels of exposure.

Full disposal instructions from Hobbycraft:

•Stop using the product immediately.

•If the sand is still in its packaging, place in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double tape it securely, label it clearly and store in a secure location out of the reach of children.

•If the sand has been used, clean up sites where the product was used using wet cloths to avoid generating dust. Wear gloves and a mask.

•Double bag the sand, gloves, mask and cloths.

•Keep children and other people away from areas where the sand has been used until the area has been cleaned.

•Return the sand vials from the product to your nearest Hobbycraft store for a full refund.

•If you are unable to get to a Hobbycraft store, please follow the instructions above and dispose of the sand in your general household waste.

•Contact Hobbycraft for a full refund.
