🌟 July monthly summary - what a wonderful month we had! 🌟

July flew by in a whirlwind of fun, learning, and exciting adventures. Here is a little look back at all the lovely things our little ones have been up to!

☺️ Soft play adventures: We took trips to soft play, helping our children build confidence and develop essential motor skills while having an absolute blast!

🕵‍♂️ Community Detectives: We loved exploring our local area! From visiting the library, feeding the squirrels, exploring treasures in charity shops and playing town detectives— we solved clues and worked hard spotting the first letters of our names in shop windows and hunting for shapes all around town.

🍟Celebrating Black Country Day: We marked the occasion in true local style by enjoying some yummy chip shop chips with our dinner!

🎾Active Adventures: We’ve made the most of the lovely weather by playing sports outside the nursery and heading out to explore the park. 🌳

⚽️ Football Fever!: We hosted a fantastic England party to celebrate England winning against Mexico! The children had a brilliant time making football cookies, decorating their own goalkeepers, and sharing some yummy party food together. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

🎒 Looking Forward to Big Adventures: With some of our older friends heading off to school in September, we’ve been focusing on our "new starts" and "moving on" topics, helping everyone feel ready and excited for their next big step.✨

June Monthly Summary: Bees, Pebbles, and Rockpools 🐝🌊🐚

What a spectacular month of learning and discovery! June has been a busy time as we explored our fascinating topics of bees, pebbles, and rockpools. We have embraced every opportunity to get creative, learn new skills, and explore our local community.

Marine Adventures!
We brought the ocean to life through art and play.
🐚 Rockpool Discovery: We shared information books to learn all about the creatures living in rockpools, and we were so proud of how many facts we remembered! We then enjoyed "fishing" in our very own indoor rockpool and decorated fish and starfish using our fine motor skills.
🐚Salt Art: We created vibrant sea creature pictures by applying PVA glue, salt, and colourful paint to achieve a brilliant blended rainbow effect.
🏴‍☠️ Pirate Party: We hosted a pirate pool party and made our own pirate pizzas!
🌊 Pebble Skimming: We spent time in the forest practising our pebble skimming—a perfect way to combine coordination with our pebble topic.

Creative Arts 🎨
🌟 Butterfly Frames: We explored the forest to find patterns, taking artistic photographs through our butterfly frames and collecting natural treasures to create our own butterfly pictures.
🌟 Clay Creations: After hard work in May, our clay animals were finally ready to paint! We took such pride in our creations and hope they will adorn window sills for many years to come.

🚌 Community Exploration & Fun
We had some fantastic adventures out and about!
🌟 Halesowen Heritage: We ventured into Halesowen to follow the heritage trail. We worked hard to use our maps and illustrations to accurately identify important monuments and historic buildings.
🌟 Music in the Town: A group of us popped into Somers Square to watch live bands. We particularly enjoyed the rhythm of the samba music—and munching a little biscuit whilst we listened to the tunes! 🎶
🌟 Teddy Bear Picnic: When the weather turned rainy, we brought the fun inside! We made delicious jam sandwiches to share with our teddies and had a lovely time playing with our friends 🧸

🐝 Honey Bee Biscuits:We channelled our inner chefs to measure and mix ingredients, adding honey to create delicious shortbread biscuits, which we then decorated to look just like bees! Of course, we sampled our efforts, and they were delicious.

May Monthly Summary: Growth, Creativity, and Community 🌻

What a brilliant month of discovery! May has been a time of vibrant growth as we explored our topics of sunflowers and strawberries, alongside some truly heartwarming community adventures.

🍓 Nature & Creativity
We have been busy turning our outdoor discoveries into wonderful creations:
🌟Little Forest Adventures: We explored the natural world, collecting treasures to press into our salt dough creations. The children loved experimenting with the different shapes and patterns left behind.
🌟 Artistic Projects: We got creative by making our own strawberry bags! We also worked together to craft beautiful rose petal soap, adding a touch of lavender for a delightful scent.
🌟Fairy Doors Following our discovery of fairy doors at Warley Woods last month, we decided to make our own! We loved the idea of leaving them out for others in the community to find and admire.

🌸 Botanical Exploration: A group visited Birmingham Botanical Gardens, where we consolidated our learning from April and were thrilled to spot more dandelions among the flowers.

🧁 Cooking, History and Sunshine fun!
🌟 Baking Fun: We channelled our inner chefs to bake fairy cakes, choosing our own woodland-themed toppers to decorate them once they had cooled.
🌟Stepping Back in Time: We visited the historic house at Haden Hill Park. The children loved learning about the past and had a wonderful time dressing up in old-fashioned clothes.
🌟 Pool and Pizza Party: With the weather turning lovely and warm, we couldn't resist celebrating with a fantastic pool and pizza party!

🩷 Spreading Kindness 🩷
Kindness has been at the heart of our May adventures! We took part in a special random act of kindness activity, visiting local businesses in Hagley Village to deliver chocolates and flowers. Our children were wonderfully polite, and it was heart-warming to see how much joy they brought to others.The community was incredibly kind to us in return! The children were delighted to receive treats from the local sports shop, hairdressers, and estate agents. It was a perfect lesson in how small acts of kindness make everyone feel happy 😊

April Monthly Summary: Flowers, Friends, and Fun 🌻

What an incredible April! We wefe fully immersed in the beauty of nature, focusing on our topics of grass, dandelions, and buttercups 🌼 It has been a season of discovery, physical activity, and community adventures.

🌷Floral Explorations & Creativity
We spent much of the month as budding botanists, learning all about our local flowers.

🌷Nature Hunts & Crafts: We enjoyed dandelion hunting and used our own handmade binoculars to explore flowers in the ‘big’ and ‘little’ forests.

🌷Artistic Bloom: We got creative by using flowers to make lion manes and even experimented with making our own natural paints from petals!

🌷Park Visits: We loved exploring the natural beauty at Lightwood Park and enjoyed our picnic!

🌷Acts of Kindness & Local Outings
We believe in the importance of caring for our community and our environment. We did a trip to Mary Stevens Park, where we fed the ducks—a wonderful lesson in showing kindness to animals 🦆 To top off our visit, we enjoyed tucking into some chips from the local chip shop.

🌷 Garden Fun
Back at nursery, we have been busy in the garden. These activities have been perfect for refining our fine motor skills and encouraging us to enjoy the sunshine while developing our coordination.

🎳 Bowling
In April, we also began taking small groups bowling! This was a fantastic way to support our physical education and mathematical development. We had great fun counting the pins as they fell and discussing our scores. We showed great comradeship by cheering on our friends! The outings were a hit, with highlights including spending our pennies in the arcade and, for many, the thrill of sitting on the top floor of a double-decker bus!

March - Nature, Exploration, and Creativity!

March was a marvellous month of curiosity and outdoor adventure, with the children thoroughly enjoying our topic of snails and soil 🐌

🌟 Outdoor Exploration 🍃
We embraced the fresh air with some fantastic trips:
• Saltwells Woods - We loved the sculpture trail, which helped us develop our teamwork and communication as we spotted various shapes and textures.
• Habitats & Soil - In the "big forest," we acted as naturalists, investigating logs and tree roots. We also had great fun getting hands-on with soil, digging gently to discover different colours and textures. 🌲🌳
• Warley Woods - We enjoyed a wonderful trip, finding magical fairy doors and playing with bubbles.🧚‍♀️

🌟 Minibeast Fun & Creativity
Our fascination with minibeasts led to some memorable activities:
• Snail Hunting: We showed great perseverance searching for snails and were delighted when we spotted them—including our own 'hidden snails' in Halesowen!
• Making Treats: We channelled our inner chefs to create delicious "jammy snails," rolling pastry and jam into spirals.
• Artistic Projects: We practised our fine motor skills by crafting clay snails and using finger paints to decorate shells with spiral patterns. 🐌

🌟 Community Celebrations 🎉
We finished the month with some lovely events:
• Easter Fun: The Easter bonnet parade and fete were huge hits! 🐰
• Church Visit: We loved visiting Halesowen Church to follow their Easter footprint trail and admire the beautiful decorations.

It has been a month of growth and wonder. We are so proud of the children’s enthusiasm!

Celebrating Diversity at The Cosy Corner Day Nursery 🕌

At The Cosy Corner Day Nursery, we believe in the beauty of inclusivity. We are proud to foster an environment where children learn to respect, understand, and celebrate the diverse faiths and traditions that make our community so special! We love opening doors to new cultural experiences, helping our little ones grow into curious, empathetic, and global-minded citizens.

In March, we were delighted to celebrate Eid! It was a wonderful opportunity to explore the meaning behind this special occasion through a range of engaging, hands-on activities that captured the children's imaginations ☪️

🌟 A Feast for the Senses
Food is a wonderful way to bring people together, and our celebration was no exception. We sampled a variety of delicious foods, which gave the children a fantastic chance to experience new tastes and spark conversations about different culinary traditions. It was heartwarming to see such curiosity and enthusiasm as they tried each item and shared their thoughts and discoveries with their friends.

🌟 Creative Expressions
Our nursery was buzzing with creativity as we marked the occasion with some beautiful art projects:
• Crescent Moon Artwork - The children explored a wide variety of materials, carefully selecting colours and textures. This was a great way to express their creativity while further developing their fine motor skills.
• Decorative Lanterns - We had so much fun crafting our own lanterns. The children were incredibly proud of their creations and were so excited to take them home to share with their families.

Overall, it was a joyful and enriching day filled with learning, creativity, and togetherness. We embraced the spirit of Eid with kindness and excitement, making it a truly special experience for everyone at The Cosy Corner.

🌿 Exploring Beyond the Nursery Classroom 🌿

At our nursery, learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. We pride ourselves on giving our children rich, real-world experiences and opportunities to explore the world around them.

Last week our adventures included:

🦆 A trip to Mary Stevens Park to feed the ducks as part of our recent learning about rain
🐞 Visiting Saltwells Nature Reserve to search for bugs and learn about their habitats
🌈 Exploring Halesowen in search of all things colourful
🌳 Walking to our “big forest” to create nature faces using natural materials
📚 A visit to the library to develop our love of reading
🌸 Exploring our wider community for signs of spring and colourful flowers

These aren’t just special occasions — they are part of our weekly experiences for the children. Our high staff ratio allows us to get out and about, providing meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities that spark curiosity, creativity and a love of the world around them.

📚✨ World Book Day at Nursery ✨📚

Our day was Once Upon a Time themed and the children enjoyed exploring some wonderful stories and activities together.

🥣 We explored Goldilocks and the Three Bears and even tasted some delicious porridge.
🦆 The children created their very own Ugly Duckling biscuits.
🐾 We made lovely animal bookmarks to take home and use with our favourite books.
🫖 We held our very own Alice in Wonderland tea party, which was full of smiles and laughter.
🐷 The children tested different materials while exploring The Three Little Pigs to see which ones were the strongest.
🍪 We made Gingerbread Man playdough, inspired by the classic story.
📖 We shared lots of stories together throughout the day.
🎶 And we finished with dancing and singing along to World Book Day songs during our Music Bugs session!
