🌞 Laura’s Explorers – Summer Holidays Update! 🌞

Another busy week of summer adventures! ☀️

Our Little Explorers have enjoyed trips to Sharnfold Farm to see the animals, the newly opened Wealden Community Sports Hub, the library for Rhyme Time and Western Road playground! There have been lots of opportunities to practise cruising, climbing and jumping, as well as discovering all sorts of animal noises! 🐑🐄

Our older Explorers have enjoyed trips to Ergeton Playground, Bexhill beach and Batemans. The latter was a new one for us and was such a lovely day out! We explored the house and grounds, followed the Monkey Puzzle trail, enjoyed the summer activities & natural playground and visited the watermill. It was also lovely to see where The Jungle Book was written! If you haven’t been before, I’d really recommend it 😊

Back at home, there’s been lots of fun in the garden and a surprising amount of dancing! 💃😂 Our youngest Explorers have enjoyed posting activities, dressing up and making music, while others got stuck into Playdoh, painting, cake making and jewellery creations 🎨

A lovely mix this week of:
🌱 Physical development and movement
🌱 Communication, music and language
🌱 Creativity and imagination
🌱 Exploring and discovering the world around us
🌱 Child-led play and new experiences

🌞 Laura’s Explorers – Summer Holidays Update! 🌞

This week has been short and sweet as I’ve taken a couple of days to reset 😊

Our little Explorers enjoyed a trip to Hellingly Family Hub’s toddler group, followed by lots of fun at Hellingly Country Park. The play train was a particular favourite and provided a great opportunity for our cruising Explorer to practise balancing and moving with confidence, while the swings were a hit with everyone! 🌳

Our older Explorers enjoyed trips to Princes Park, the beach and Sharnfold Farm. We actually changed our plans one day because they were playing so happily together and didn’t fancy a longer journey in the car – and that was absolutely fine! One of the things I love most about childminding is having the flexibility to follow the children’s interests, adapt to the weather and make the most of the moment 😍

Back at home, we’ve had fun making potions, holding Lego challenges, decorating fans to keep cool in the heat and getting busy in the kitchen making pizzas, DIY ice creams and healthy flapjacks 🍕🍦

A lovely mix this week of:
✨ Child-led play and decision making
✨ Creativity and imagination
✨ Outdoor exploration and physical development
✨ Independence, confidence and teamwork

🌞Laura’s Explorers – Summer Holidays Update! 🌞

We made it to the summer holidays! ☀️ After such a long (and very hot!) term, it feels like a real milestone!

This week has also marked the end of primary school for our wonderful Year 6 Explorers 🥹 It’s been such an emotional week watching their Leavers’ Assembly and waving them off for their final day at their school trip to Knockhatch. The same children I walked to school on some of their very first days in Reception, I was collecting and celebrating with as they finished primary school… seven years later! ❤️

I feel so privileged to have been part of their childhoods and I particularly want to thank the families who have been with me from the very beginning for trusting me with their children and allowing me to be part of their journey 😍

While some will still be joining us over the summer (and Lovelle will, of course, still be here after that!), September certainly won’t feel quite the same. I’m so proud of them all and can’t wait to hear about their next adventures!

With the holidays officially underway, our little Explorers have enjoyed watching the Leavers’ Assembly, visiting the sensory gardens, riding the train & playing at Eastbourne Miniature Railway and exploring Hampden Park, where we fed the ducks, birds and squirrels 🚂🦆

Our older Explorers kicked off the holidays with our now traditional hay fight at Middle Farm! We also enjoyed meeting the animals and making the most of the playgrounds😍

Back at home, our little Explorers have been busy making their mark with crayons, exploring & watering the garden and enjoying stories read by the older children 😍 Meanwhile, our older Explorers have been decorating masks and making their very own cushions.

A lovely mix this week of:
✨ Creativity and self-expression
✨ Building caring relationships across different ages
✨ Outdoor exploration and discovering the world around us
✨ Celebrating milestones and making memories

Here’s to a wonderful summer full of adventures! ☀️💚 ###

🎒 Laura’s Explorers Weekly Update! 🎒

This week has been a lovely mix of creative play and games ✨

The Explorers have enjoyed making Hama bead creations, tracing detailed pictures and painting the clay fossils they made earlier in the term 🎨

Imaginative play has continued with ice cream shops and plenty of races on the speed track, while Top Trumps has been a firm favourite. We also had a giant game of UNO using three packs of cards at once! 😂

There have also been lots of laughs with Twister, Musical Cushions and Beetle Drive, encouraging teamwork, turn-taking and plenty of friendly competition 🎲

One of my favourite moments this week was spending time together in the sensory gardens. I was amazed by how much energy they still had after their school discos! 🌿

A lovely mix this week of:
✨ Creativity and concentration
✨ Imaginative play and storytelling
✨ Turn-taking and teamwork
✨ Active play and coordination

And on a more personal note, we only have two more days of having our Year 6s on the school run. Although they’ll still be with me over the summer holidays, it feels like a huge milestone. Some of them have been with me since they started Reception, which means seven years of making amazing memories together. It really won’t be quite the same again. It’s going to be an emotional week! 😬😬

This week our little Explorers have enjoyed visits to Left Holden The Kids (my childminder friend Tracie’s!), Knockhatch and Sharnfold Farm 🌿

It’s been a lovely week of practising and developing new skills. Our youngest Explorer has been doing lots of cruising, while our oldest really surprised me by showing me she can already hold a pencil correctly! ✏️😊

The outings provided lots of opportunities for new social experiences, exploring different environments and hearing plenty of new vocabulary — especially during our visit to the farm 🐑

Back at home, the dollies and the newly decorated cot bed have been a huge hit. It has been so sweet to watch the children carefully putting their dollies to bed and beginning to develop those early caring and imaginative play skills 😍

A lovely mix this week of:
🌱 Physical development and movement
🌱 Early communication and language
🌱 Fine motor skills and early writing
🌱 Social confidence and new experiences
🌱 Imaginative and caring play

🎒 Laura’s Explorers Weekly Update! 🎒

This week our older Explorers took on a special challenge — upcycling an old dolls cot for our Little Explorers 🛏️🤍

They understood that, while they would be welcome to play with it too, the aim was to make it beautiful for the younger children who are beginning to enjoy looking after the dollies. Everyone had the chance to add their own artistic flair and the finished cot is now ready for the babies to enjoy next week 🎨✨

There has also been plenty of active play, despite the heat, with gymnastics in the garden and an extended version of the speed track that even incorporated the slide!

Indoors, Top Trumps and UNO have been firm favourites, encouraging turn-taking, healthy competition and lots of laughter. We’ve also made fruit kebabs, created domino designs and some beautiful pictures & comics with the help of our stencils, decorated card watches and enjoyed plenty of imaginative play with our Playdoh restaurant 🍓🍽️

A lovely mix this week of:
✨ Creativity and self-expression
✨ Teamwork and empathy
✨ Problem solving and strategic thinking
✨ Active play and coordination
✨ Imaginative and role play experiences

🦁 Laura’s Little Explorers 🦁

This week has focused on sensory experiences and exploring lots of different textures 🌿

We’ve enjoyed time in the garden, the woods and at the beach - discovering natural materials such as sand, water, moss and pine cones. It goes to show how much play and learning is child-led, particularly at this age.. while my idea had been to emphasise language to do with texture and size, in practice the focus was again more about the noise the materials could make 😂

Back inside, we had a go at using contact paper and pom-poms (with close supervision!) to ‘make our mark’. It was something we returned to several times during the week and it was lovely to see confidence growing with each attempt. We continued our mark-making exploration with sand trays and crayons too.

Another milestone was reached this week with our youngest Explorer starting to cruise! Her confidence is growing day by day and it’s a joy to watch 😍

One particularly lovely moment this week was watching our youngest Explorer carefully “look after” a dolly and put it to bed 😍 In the moment, I grabbed the nearest thing I could find… hence the box! Since then, finding a suitable cot bed has become a project for the older Explorers, so watch this space 🤭

A lovely mix this week of:
🌱 Sensory play and exploration
🌱 Early mark making and creativity
🌱 Building confidence and independence
🌱 Imaginative play and caring behaviours

✨Exciting news!✨

I'm delighted to share that I've been accepted onto a Level 3 Early Years SENCO course starting next month!

As a childminder, I've already completed SENCO training through the council but this nationally recognised qualification will provide much more comprehensive knowledge and skills to support children with additional needs.

I'm passionate about creating an inclusive environment where every child can thrive and I’m excited to have this opportunity to develop my knowledge further 😍

🎒 Laura’s Explorers Weekly Update! 🎒

This week our Explorers have made the most of the garden, enjoying games of football, darts, basketball and plenty of gymnastics!

We’ve also taken some of our craft activities outside - creating Hama bead designs and making bird feeders. It’s been a lovely balance of energetic play and calmer, more focused activities with the children choosing what interested them most.

Back indoors, we’ve been busy decorating shells (which have turned out beautifully!), making our own fossils, creating paper fans and enjoying lots of laughs with games of What’s Up? 😊

A lovely mix this week of:
✨ Creativity and self-expression
✨ Active play and coordination
✨ Concentration and perseverance
✨ Choice-led play and teamwork

This week my little Explorers have enjoyed visits to a local playgroup, the park and the library 🌿
It has been so lovely to watch their confidence and independence continue to grow. Our youngest Explorer is now confidently crawling and pulling herself up to standing with ease, while our slightly older Explorer has mastered clipping buggy and highchair straps together… no mean feat, even for me sometimes! 😂

Back at home, we’ve explored sensory play with giant shells and baby-safe Playdoh. The shells were intended for exploring different textures, although the noises they could make turned out to be far more exciting than my attempts to talk about “bumpy” and “smooth”! 🤭

At the park, we enjoyed simple ball games, reinforcing concepts such as “up” and “down” through play while encouraging lots of movement and exploration.

Two of my favourite moments this week were watching our youngest Explorer gently stroke a dolly’s hair as she “looked after” it 🥹 and our older Exolorer wanting to push a dolly down the slide 😍 Such a lovely glimpse of the beginnings of imaginative play and caring behaviours.

A lovely mix this week of:
🌱 Physical development and movement
🌱 Sensory play and exploration
🌱 Supporting early communication and language
🌱 Building confidence, independence and early social skills
