👋 Meet Casey Ham, our new Business Manager at Challenge Packaging

Next up in our Meet the Team series is Casey Ham.

Casey looks after our existing customers while also building new relationships and opportunities, with one thing always at the heart of what he does: getting it right for the customer.

With a background in plastic packaging, Casey has worked as an Area Sales Manager for both a reseller and a manufacturer. That experience gives him a great understanding of the industry from both sides and, more importantly, what businesses really need when choosing the right packaging solution.

And when he’s not looking after our customers, Casey is a proud dad of two, so life outside Challenge is certainly no quieter!

We’re looking forward to sharing more from Casey and the rest of the Challenge team as part of our Meet the Team series.

We’ve been behind the scenes with our new Managing Director, Mark McCleery, as we begin filming some exciting new content for Challenge Packaging.

With more than three decades of experience across the print and packaging industry, Mark brings a wealth of knowledge to Challenge, and we’re looking forward to giving you the chance to get to know him and his role within the business.

We’re also excited to showcase more of what happens behind the scenes at Challenge. From our people and processes to the work that goes into delivering the right packaging solutions for our customers, there’s a lot that goes on before a box reaches its final destination.

📦 Single wall or double wall, which one do you need?

Not all cardboard boxes are created equal.
When it comes to choosing the right box, one of the biggest things to consider is the board grade, and specifically whether you need single-walled or double-walled corrugated board.

Single-walled boxes have one fluted layer between two liners. They’re lighter, more cost-effective and a great option for everyday items that don’t require heavy-duty protection.

Double-walled boxes have two fluted layers, giving them additional strength, cushioning and resistance to crushing. They’re better suited to heavier, fragile or higher-value products, particularly when they’re travelling longer distances.

So, which should you choose?
📦 Single wall: clothing, books, smaller household items and lighter, non-fragile products.

📦 Double wall: electronics, machinery, glassware, heavier products and items that need a little more protection during transit.

The right board grade can make a big difference to how your packaging performs, so it’s worth considering what’s going inside the box, how far it’s travelling and what it’s likely to face along the way.

What a way to end the month! Colin, Jon, Martin and Ben from the Challenge Packaging team headed over to Belfast to take part in the W&R Barnett Dragon Boat Race as part of their 130th anniversary celebrations.

With 14 teams from across all six divisions taking to the River Lagan, it was a brilliant day of teamwork, plenty of laughs and, of course, a little healthy competition! 🚣‍♂️

The event also raised an incredible almost £92,000 across the fourteen boats, with the W & R Barnett Charity Scheme making further matched donations depending on the finishing positions in the Dragon Boat event.

A huge well done to everyone involved and to W&R Barnett for putting on such a fantastic event. We were proud to have Colin, Jon, Martin and Ben there representing Challenge Packaging, and we're sure there were a few tired arms the following morning!

Sending w**e? Make sure your packaging is up to the job. 🍷

We’ve reached Part 3 of our revamped Colin Tour, bringing the series to a close.

Over the three episodes, Colin has taken us around Challenge, sharing a bit more about what goes on behind the scenes, the team and what makes the business tick.

There’s been plenty of information, a few unexpected moments and, naturally, Colin had a lot to say. 😂

A big thanks to Colin for taking us along for the ride, and to everyone who’s watched, commented and joined in along the way.

We recently sat down with Ben Turton, our Design & Estimating Manager, to chat about his time at Challenge and how much the industry has changed over the years.

Ben joined us at just 16 years old, starting out in the factory running a die cutter before getting the opportunity to move into design.

Fast forward 30+ years and he’s worked on countless projects, seen some pretty big changes in the industry and built up a serious amount of knowledge along the way.

One of the biggest changes? The machinery.

He also gave us one of our favourite quotes from the interview:
*"If you cut me open, you'd probably find Challenge Packaging running through me like a stick of rock."* 😂
