Over the past few days, we have received more kindness than we ever imagined possible. If there has been one silver lining to this awful attack, it has been witnessing the community come together with such compassion, generosity and determination to help us rebuild. 🌱

This has never been just a woodland. It is a childhood space, thoughtfully created over years to give children the best start to life. A place where childhood itself is protected and celebrated. It’s a place that holds memories, adventures and milestones for hundreds of children and families.

Over the last few days, we’ve watched the community rally around LWT in a way that has genuinely moved us. All asking the same question, ‘how can we help?’

Your many kind messages, your generous offers of help, and even your shared outrage have reminded us that this place does not stand alone. That’s the thing we’ve learned about community this week. It grows stronger when it’s needed most.

Last night, Little Wild Wood was absolutely decimated. It was deliberately set alight and ferociously vandalised.

Essex Fire Service worked tirelessly to control the fire, save the animals and limit the blaze spreading to the whole woodland. We are so thankful to them. The forensics team are investigating this as deliberate arson and criminal damage.

We have worked so hard over the years to develop our Little Wild Woodland into such a phenomenal place, where hundreds of children have explored, learned, built confidence and experienced the freedom of childhood in nature.

It isn’t just a woodland. Every path, every shelter and every space has been lovingly created with care, by our incredible team who believe children deserve the very best childhood.

To see it destroyed so needlessly is incredibly difficult.

So we need your help.

If you were in or around Hadleigh Country Park last night and saw anything unusual, or have any information that may help the investigation, however small it may seem, please contact Essex Police or send us a private message. Even the smallest detail could prove important.

Please, please, please - share this post. The more people who see it, the greater the chance that someone knows something. Someone must know something that helps identify those responsible.

We cannot and will not ever tolerate acts of violence against childhood.

What is clear though, is that this mindless criminal damage will not undo or diminish what this woodland means to our community. If anything, it reminds us why it’s so important.

From the literal embers, we’ll rise again. 🌱
