Last week, Paul from Paul Hanmore led a fantastic day of ‘Resilience Reps’ training with our Year 5 pupils across South Essex Academy Trust

Our pupils are now officially trained as Resilience Reps, having completed five brilliant modules:

⭐️What is Mental Well-Being
⭐️The Impact of Our Behaviours
⭐️Digital Resilience
⭐️Healthy Relationships and Self-Care
⭐️Building Our Future Selves

The day was packed with energy, interactive games, confidence-building activities, and public speaking opportunities. The children loved using their new YouthShoots workbooks and sustainable pens to track their learning throughout the day.

As these pupils transition into Year 6, they will take the lead. They get to decide how to take this training forward, designing and running their own projects to strengthen mental health and well-being across our entire school. 💙

A huge thank you to Paul and the YouthShoots team for empowering our pupils and giving them the tools to make a real difference! 🙌

Such a great day yesterday at Kents Hill Infant Academy and Nursery ! We partnered with Paul Hanmore for a full afternoon and evening focused entirely on emotional wellbeing and resilience.

Our Year 2 pupils started things off with a brilliant, bespoke workshop. It was fantastic to see our younger learners engaging so well with early coping strategies and finding fun ways to understand their emotions.

Then, once the school day finished, our staff team joined together for a twilight session led by Paul from YouthShoots. It’s easy to put yourself last when you work in education, so having a dedicated space to focus on our own resilience was incredibly welcome.
Paul guided us through some really practical, self-led strategies for:

♥️Meaningful self-care
✨Grounding ourselves to stay present in the moment
🫶🏻Finding and celebrating those small moments of joy during a busy school day
🙌Keeping ourselves energised

A huge thank you to Paul and the YouthShoots team for such an uplifting and practical day. Looking after our staff is just as vital as looking after our pupils, and yesterday was a perfect example of that whole-school approach in action! 🌱

Today, the fantastic community at Bardfield Academy officially opened their brand-new Daily Mile track—the only new track of its kind in the entire county of Essex! 🏆🏃‍♂️💨

The energy on the playground today was absolutely amazing. The brilliant pupils led the official ribbon-cutting, while the school community was out in full force walking, running, and cheering them on.

Milestones like this don’t just happen by accident. They require an incredible amount of vision and behind-the-scenes coordination. A massive thank you to Hayley Fowlie-Burns, the brilliant PE Lead at Bardfield Academy. Hayley’s hard work, dedication, and passion for youth sport were the absolute driving force behind making this project a reality for the children.

We delighted to welcome colleagues from Active Essex and the London Marathon Foundation to mark this special occasion and see firsthand the impact of investing in our pupils’ physical health and mental well-being.

We were also incredibly privileged to have Essex’s own world-record-holding ultra-runner, Sam King, join us today. Sam gave a truly inspirational talk to our children and staff. Hearing his amazing story of resilience—transforming his life to run an astonishing 74 ultramarathons in 74 days—was the perfect way to motivate everyone to get active on our new track.

At South Essex Academy Trust, we are committed to embedding daily activity into the heart of our schools. Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces today proves exactly why creating these unique, county-leading opportunities is so vital.
An incredible achievement for the school, the trust, and the county. Well done, Hayley, and Bardfield Academy! 💙

Brilliant that the newsletter features SOUTH ESSEX ACADEMY TRUST today!

‘As part of their continued focus on belonging across the South Essex Academy Trust (SEAT), 26 classes across 4 schools came together for a shared Lyfta Live Lesson exploring what it truly means to feel accepted, valued, and part of a community’

What a positive impact Lyfta is having on our children, in a time where division is prevalent.

Loving the quotes from our incredible children on our core value of Belonging: 💞

“Belonging feels like being respected, I feel it when people help me.”
“It means that you feel as important as everyone else.”
“One part is that you feel safe and understood.”
“We feel like a family.”
“You feel happy and part of a team.”
“No outsiders: everyone is welcome!”

Yesterday was a busy but brilliant day!

Right after our SEAT Strategy morning, we stayed at Southend United Football Club for our Board of Trustees meeting. We set up shop in the DS2 Lounge, getting to catch the academy team playing while we worked.

I just want to say a massive thank you to our board. They bring so much to the table—expertise, insight, support, and the kind of healthy challenge and questioning that keeps us moving forward. No matter what we’re discussing, they always put our pupils, staff, and parents first.

They are all volunteers who give up a ton of their own time to support us, and we are incredibly lucky to have them in our corner. 🙌

What an incredible day of collaboration, vision, and energy at our SEAT Strategy Day! 💫

Today, leaders from every corner of our trust—Trustees, Academy Committee leaders, Executive leaders, Central team members, and our brilliant Headteachers and Deputies—came together under one roof.

We couldn’t have asked for a better backdrop than Southend United Fc ⚽—still buzzing from their massive FA Trophy win just this past Sunday! That championship energy definitely fueled our discussions. We even got to take a tour of the stadium pitch, watch the Academy play and—the absolute icing on the cake—hold the actual trophy! 🏆

A huge, heartfelt thank you to the talented and amazing Alice Gregson for facilitating the day. You kept us challenged, inspired, and completely aligned.

The absolute highlight of the day was when the SEAT pupil leadership team attended. They joined us to share how our four core values—Belonging, Compassion, Curiosity, and Empowerment—actually live out in our schools. They told us exactly what we’ve nailed, and honestly pointed out what we still need to work on. They were articulate, brave, funny, and incredibly thoughtful.

Together, we rolled up our sleeves and focused on the four pillars that will drive our new strategic plan. Hearing directly from our pupils anchored everything we did. We don’t want a dusty document that sits on a computer drive or fades on a staffroom wall. We are building a values-driven vision that is lived, breathed, and loved by everyone across our schools every single day.

I’m leaving today feeling completely inspired and energised by the collective passion of our leadership community. There is a genuine excitement in the air for this next chapter, and I cannot wait to see these plans bring meaningful, lasting transformation to all of our schools. 🌟

Another inspiring day at Google HQ, aligning the power of AI with our Trust’s new draft Digital Strategy.

Today made me reflect on four key pillars for the future:
• Transforming Classrooms: How can AI meaningfully redefine the learning experience?
• Addressing Pitfalls: How do we effectively train staff to navigate risks and biases?
• Empowering Pupils: How do we equip pupils to lead in an AI-driven world?
• Embedding Ethics: How do we ensure responsible, transparent use across the entire organisation?

Grateful for the thoughtful facilitation and generous collaboration from everyone involved. The future looks bright!
