What a transformation! 🌳🍂

After two days of working in the scorching heat, our forest school area has a beautiful new woodland floor.

A huge thank you to Ollie, who helped unload and spread 22 bulk bags of bark across the entire site. It was no small task, but the results speak for themselves!

The bark will help keep the woodland cool and comfortable during the summer months, reduce dust and mud, and protect the soil from heavy footfall. Over time, it will naturally break down and return valuable organic matter to the woodland floor.

We’re absolutely delighted with the difference it has made and can’t wait for the children to enjoy exploring, learning and playing in this wonderful space.

Thank you, Ollie – your hard work has made a huge difference! 👏

Happy 100th Birthday Sir David Attenborough 🌍🌿

From all of us here at Woodlands, thank you for a lifetime of wisdom, wonder and unwavering dedication to the natural world.

As educators, one of our greatest responsibilities is to help children connect with nature, to nurture curiosity, compassion and respect for the world around them. One of the greatest gifts you have given us is the reminder that positive change is always possible and that it begins with the youngest people who inhabit our planet.

Through your storytelling, passion and gentle voice, generations of children have learned to stop, notice, care and protect the beautiful world we call home.

Sir David, thank you for inspiring us to keep exploring, keep wondering and keep caring.

Happy 100th Birthday from all at Woodlands 💚

The Joy of Noticing

One of the greatest joys in early years is noticing the small, beautiful moments that tell us so much about children’s lives and feelings.

Recently, several of our babies have welcomed new siblings into their families. While this is a wonderful time, it is also a huge adjustment for little ones who were, until recently, the centre of their parents’ world. Suddenly there is a tiny new person who needs lots of time, attention and cuddles.

Today in the baby room, the children were busy dressing, feeding, gently rocking and singing to the baby dolls. One child picked up a doll, placed it on her hip and began swaying from side to side so naturally and lovingly, it was clear she has been watching very closely at home. It was a beautiful moment of understanding her world through her play.

This is why attunement is so important in early years.
A professional hand is so often about noticing, understanding, and responding in the moment with meaningful opportunities for children to process their experiences, such as doll play, nurturing play and role play.

It is a real privilege to support children through these big life changes, and to meet them exactly where they are, in the moment, with care, understanding and professionalism.

This is the quiet, important work of early years.

Twas a week before Christmas, and all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The gingerbread sat on the table with care,
In hopes that small voices soon would declare…

The room felt so peaceful, so cosy, so still,
As little ones slept by their own gentle will.
Tiny chests rising, then falling once more,
While dreams tiptoed softly across the floor.

Shoes waited patiently, coats hanging near,
Ready for laughter and afternoon cheer.
The lights twinkled quietly, warm and just right,
Though the day waited on, it wasn’t yet night.

Each child lay snug, wrapped in comfort and care,
Held by the love that still lingered in air.
Just a short rest before playtime resumes,
Before stories and songs fill the rooms.

So sleep now, woodland babies just for a while,
Your nursery waits with a welcoming smile.
When eyes flutter open this afternoon bright,
We’ll be ready and waiting till home time tonight ❤️
