I've not posted for a while, but I thought it would be worth putting an update.

It is lovely seeing my current cohort taking their GCSEs at the moment, and the confidence they have gained in their Maths.

In September I am thinking of just having two students on a Monday evening, one at 5:30, and the 2nd at 7pm. Both slots are currently available. I was tutoring 5 children in 7 slots this year.

I specialise in students who struggle with Maths, and who might not get a grade 4 without 1:1 help.

I am not a secondary Maths Teacher, For 20 years I was a primary teacher, and completed an MA focussing on adapting the curriculum to fit the child. I also home educated my own four children who all got grades 8 or 9 in their Maths GCSEs

I personally found Maths difficult at Year 10, but something clicked in Y11 and I went on to do Maths A-Level, so I have an understanding of what it feels like to be confused by maths.

Ideally this works best where I help for both years 10 & 11, but just year 11 can make a difference if the student is motivated to work hard outside the sessions.

If you think I could help, then do get in touch.

If you want testimonies from other parents, I can put you in touch with some people I have worked with this year, but I don't post them publicly for the sake of confidentiality.

Next week is 2024's GCSE results day.

If you are wanting to make sure someone passes next year, either first time, or, if next week doesn't go so well, as a resit, then do get in touch for some 1:1 tuition at your home.

In the meantime, here is a GCSE algebra question for you!

It's not often that I can share any details of the students that I teach, as I need to be as confidential as possible. However, here is a message that I received today following one of my student's final GCSE Maths paper:

She has worked so hard. She deserves to do well.

Just two students at the moment: One is KS3 and I do a pattern of two maths, and one coding lesson. The other has just had her free first lesson, and is in Y10. I've also just finished a year working for PCrefurb, teaching adults of all ages who are new to the digital world how to get online. If you want help learning anything, at any age, I'm happy to help.

Just renewed my DBS. Surprisingly, not a requirement for tutors...

I'm available to tutor whatever you need help with, from pre-school, to helping write academic essays. Mainly I tutor GCSE maths. £30/hr.

After this year's GCSE results were released, everyone is busy converting them in their heads into the format they actually understand rather than the 1-9 scoring system that has been used.

So proud of this student. She has had tutors on and off for maths since primary school. She was doing very well in all other subjects, but was predicted to not achieve grade 4 in Maths. After a few weeks, I knew that I had worked a bit of magic when she said "I still hate maths, but I hate it differently". Through lockdowns, I stayed in touch, but she didn't get on with online lessons. However, her attitude had significantly changed, and even those few months at the beginning of the year gave her the confidence to apply herself. I am so proud of her, and honoured that she thought to tell me this morning.

If you, or someone you know would benefit from tuition, book me in for a free trial lesson. (£30/HR usually).

Sam Hardy.
