⚡CAN YOU DANCE?⚡
When the music starts and the dance floor gets busy I really start to worry what I look like. The result of this worry and fear is some not overly great dancing....not being a drinker means that I can't even kid myself with alcohol haha....I just worry about it too much and don't enjoy it.
Having said that - when I stop worrying about what I think I am supposed to look like and simply try and move based upon how I feel, in that moment, it turns out that I move ok.
I think the secret is to start small....no one should go straight from 'Yes id love to dance' .. to 'I have no idea if I can do a back flip, let's try'.
With all movement - and especially if you have to constantly work through the daily physical and emotional constraints of a chronic pain - you need to start small, allow your body to learn, feel safe - and only progress if safe and suitable to do so.
The movements shown are not a 'fix' for anything. They are examples of a lateral movement progression that can challenge balance, proprioception, strength and coordination.
I have used variations with several clients with chronic pain issues. We often laugh at how the seemingly simple can offer up opportunities to learn more about ourselves.
So try it .. don't try it....but however you choose to move, start slow, start small and progress when you feel safe to do so.
