It was a super start to Science for Form 8!

Our young Scientists carried out an experiment with water, bicarbonate of soda, lemon juice, vinegar and red cabbage, observing how different chemical reactions take place.

They were full of curiosity and great questions. What do you think happened in their mixtures?!

On Wednesday, Mr Becher visited at The Royal Children's Hospital in person to hand deliver a cheque to the charity for the impressive sum of £6703.54, raised during his extraordinary coast-to-coast five-day walk in May and through the generosity and kindness of so many wonderful supporters.

Mr B was accompanied by Form 8 pupil Lawrence (and the Compass bear who travelled with Mr B on his walk!). Lawrence, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in March 2025, has experienced firsthand the difference and value offers for children and families receiving medical care at the Royal Hospital. He was delighted to join Mr B and present the cheque to the charity alongside him.

Mr B's Just Giving page will stay open for anyone who wishes to make further donations (link in bio ⬆️) and he remains extremely grateful to all those who have supported this cause during the last few months ❤️

If you haven't already, follow to keep up to date with their fundraising activities and see how their support helps children and families every day.

As the Scottish Half Marathon has just started, it reminded us of Mr Becher's remarkable fundraising effort back in May, raising money for the wonderful Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity ❤️

Mr Becher's efforts were so impressive that his walk was commemorated with a motion in the Scottish Parliament by Paul McLennan!

Mr Becher's fundraising page remains open, and he would greatly appreciate any further donations before it closes in the coming weeks (link below and in our bio):

To honour Mr Becher's walk, Mrs Thorburn has put together a lovely video documenting his 110-mile journey across Scotland, from Alloway all the way back to The Compass School, Haddington

Thank you for supporting this incredible cause, and keep posted later in the week for a special presentation!

Celebrating Mrs. Lockhart's 20 Years of Musical Excellence: A Friday Tribute 🎶

At our end-of-year assembly on the last day of the Summer Term, we had the pleasure of congratulating a staff member who has completed 20 years at The Compass School: our Teacher of Music, Mrs Renata Lockhart.

During that time, Mrs Lockhart has taught music to hundreds of children; she has given piano lessons to over 200 children; she has been the Musical Director for more than 40 musicals; and has produced some outstanding sounds with our choir of children from Forms 5-8, which have led us to win the Primary Schools Competition at the Edinburgh Competition Festival twice and to take the choir to perform at Murrayfield in front of thousands of fans at Edinburgh Rugby European matches!

She has even had our children perform on the same stage as Phil Cunningham, Ally Bain, Lau and Eddie Reader, with the latter commenting on the beautiful voices of the children, all of whom performed at a special concert at Skateraw to celebrate the Year of the Homecoming.

Therefore, we were delighted to recognise Mrs Lockhart’s service to the school with a special certificate of congratulations at the end of the Summer Term.

Congratulations, Mrs Lockhart!
