Just a reminder that from September 2026, the government is changing the free school meals (FSM) system. If your child currently receives Free School Meals and you do not re-apply using the link below, your child’s free school meal entitlement will end on 17th July 2026. We are looking forward to seeing our students back next week.

To support your child’s organisation for their first week, lesson timetables are visible when accessing Arbor using a web browser not the parent app. Lessons can be seen in calendar view for each day. Please be aware the Arbor parent app does not update fully until the official start of term.

On Tuesday Y7s will be following an additional induction day programme and will therefore start lessons on Wednesday.

RETURN TO SCHOOL INFORMATION

We hope our students, staff and their families have enjoyed a wonderful summer holiday.

We are excited to welcome our new Year 7 students and welcome back the remaining year groups during a staggered return next week. Please see below for reminders of the return dates for all students.

Monday 31st August - Bank Holiday

Tuesday 1st September - New Year 7 students only - school gates will be open to welcome students at the later than usual time of 9am.

Wednesday 2nd September - Year 7, 10 and 11 students only - school gates will open at the usual time of 8.10am

Thursday 3rd September - Students in ALL year groups to attend. School gates open at the usual time of 8.10am

We look forward to welcoming our new year 7 students and seeing the rest of our year groups, in their full, correct uniform, fully equipped and ready to start the new academic year with a positive approach and enthusiasm.

You made it!
Whether you've been training your reading stamina or levelling up your reading, this week is about celebrating how far you've come.
This week's focus:
📘 Training Plan: Go All In! – Complete one enjoyable 30-minute uninterrupted reading session and lose yourself in a great book.
🧭 Level Up: Lead Your Reading Life – Think about the kind of reader you want to be next. What will you read next? What new habits will you keep?
Reading doesn't finish when summer ends.
We hope this challenge has helped you discover new texts, new ideas and perhaps even a new side of yourself.
Thank you to everyone who has taken part. We can't wait to hear about your reading adventures when we return to school!

Exceptional GCSE success 2026.

We would like to recognise the inspirational achievement of one of our Y11 students this year.

As a school, we would like to thank the family for allowing us to share this story at this time, and pass on our heartfelt condolences from us all at LJS on the recent passing of Matt Flint.
Matt was a former LJS student himself, a keen sportsman and a hugely inspirational member of our Guisborough community. It is a privilege for us to have such amazing students with Matt and Nicola’s daughters, Charlotte and Olivia Flint attending LJS and also Matt’s sister Becky who is a much loved member of our staff.

This school year has been unbelievably hard for his daughters, with Olivia also navigating Y11 exams alongside her dad’s cancer diagnosis and treatment. Sadly, Matt passed away on Saturday 15th August just before Olivia’s GCSE results day. Yesterday, Olivia and family members and friends came to collect her GCSE results. We are thrilled to share with our local community that Olivia has achieved the best ever GCSE results of any student at LJS with a full suite of Grade 9s in every subject.

Olivia, what an incredible young woman you are, your hard work and resilience during the most challenging time in your life was utterly inspirational to us all.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026!
It was great to see so many smiles on the faces of our students as they collected their GCSE results this morning. GCSE outcomes are the culmination of students' hard work and commitment as well as a testament to the excellent support they receive in school over their five years with us. Reading might feel like a quiet activity—but the best texts start conversations.
This week's focus:
📘 Training Plan: Almost There – Build towards uninterrupted reading and see if you can lose yourself in your book.
💬 Level Up: Talk Like a Reader – Tell someone what you've been reading. Recommend a book. Share a favourite quote or interesting idea.
Texts are even better when they're shared.

Calling all employers!

We're looking for employers to take part in the Laurence Jackson School Career Conference on Thursday 15th October 2026 (approximately 9:00am–2:00pm).

This is a fantastic opportunity to help young people explore the world of work, discover different industries and careers, and make informed decisions about their future.

Whether you can:
✅ Deliver a hands-on activity
✅ Lead a discussion
✅ Showcase your organisation
✅ Share your career journey..your support could make a real difference to our students.

If you would like to be involved, please email [email protected] with: Your organisation's name; How many people you intend to bring; Any equipment or room requirements (each group will be provided with a double desk and is welcome to bring banners, displays and promotional materials. Requirements can include access to plug sockets etc…)

We'd love to welcome as many employers as possible for what promises to be an inspiring and rewarding day.
