Christmas Theory Sessions announced today - please forward to anyone who might be interested!
Following the success of the October Theory Bootcamp, I shall be running theory/musicianship sessions on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd December at my studio in Wood Street Village.
Grades 1-3 (Theory grade, not instrumental) 10am-12.30pm - £25 per session – limited to 10 students
Grades 4-5 (Theory grade, not instrumental) 2-5pm - £30 per session – limited to 8 students
These sessions will be focused on specific learning goals, such as intervals, compound and simple time etc, but as it’s Christmas, I’ll add an element of games and Christmassy themes.
For those that don’t know me, I’m a cello teacher with 30 years experience in the Guildford area, teaching privately and at Hawthorns School, Aldro School, Lord Wandsworth College and Rydes Hill School. In the past I have been Head of Strings at Guildford High School, for 10 years I ran the Junior Course at Pro Corda, the National Chamber Music School, and was director of the National Chamber Music Festival for Schools. I have a passion for teaching theory and musicianship, believing that all great instrumentalists need a fundamental understanding of how music works; theory and musicianship therefore need to be fully developed during a child’s musical education.
Please contact me on [email protected] to book in for any of these sessions. Monday and Tuesday will cover different material, so it is fine to book in for both or either. Feel free to forward to anyone else who may be interested.

Here's the link to the performance of Somewhere Over the Rainbow that the students prepared during the week. Ages 7-13 and a few had only been there a day or two - they did so well! Thanks to Holly Scott and her assistant Uke teacher Millie for teaching them so well!
