We have been so lucky in Reception! 🐣
Last week, five little eggs arrived in each of our classrooms at Wood Street and Worplesdon. We waited patiently and watched closely as tiny cracks began to appear, and we were amazed to see our ducklings hatch! 🐥
Our ducklings have been wonderful and it has been an amazing experience to observe them grow and develop. One of our favourite highlights was watching them swim for the very first time—they made some fantastic splashes! 💦
This will be a very special memory for our Reception class children.

Our Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 swimmers had a fantastic opportunity to take part in the swimming gala at St Catherine’s Bramley.
Competing in a wide range of races, including both individual events and team relays, the children showed great enthusiasm, determination and resilience throughout the day.
They supported one another brilliantly, demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and represented our school with pride. It was wonderful to see them putting our school values into action both in and out of the pool.
Thank you to St Catherine's Bramley for hosting us!

Recently the Year 1 children at Wood Street and Worplesdon enjoyed a trip to Milestones Museum to learn all about life for children in the past.
They enjoyed two workshops, wandered the indoors cobbled streets at the museum and played the games that children would have played in Victorian times. This trip helped to embed and enrich their history topic and they had a wonderful day!

From one of our Year 6 pupils:
Recently, my year group did a World War 2 workshop where we did lots of fun learning and did some interesting activities along with it. One of the classes were code breaking and there were 2 different types: Morse code and Enigma. The Morse code is writing letters but as dots and dashes:A=.-and E=. Enigma was when you had two circles with the alphabet which would match up with each other and then you write those letters.
Another class learnt about foods they had back then, such as spam. You could also make your own tags and identity cards which was really fun. In the last class, Mrs Dove taught us all about the ration books of food and clothing. She also taught us where the bombs landed in Chertsey and what they were called.
Finally, the last thing she taught us were all the items which were used in war including sirens and covers for your light so the German air force (Luftwaffe) could not see you. It was a great workshop and personally my favourite was learning where the bombs dropped, which I found quite fascinating.

The theme for Forest School at Wood Street Infants this week was all about den building. We talked about the different purposes for our dens such as bug hotels, animal homes and even castles for kings and queens.
The children then thought about the different sized sticks they would need to build their structure and what materials would make a good roof or make it waterproof.
We also had great fun finding wiggly worms and playing stuck in the mud!

Just before half term a team of mathematicians went to the inaugural Year 5 Maths competition at Kings College Guildford.
The mood in the minibus was a mix of excitement and nerves. Would it be all times tables questions? Would the questions be hard? How many other schools would be there? Are there prizes?
Team Worplesdon was one of nine teams and decided to stay as one team of 6 rather than split into two teams. They soon got stuck into the warm up questions and realised that they needed to use all their Maths skills and work together to answer the questions.
As the rounds progressed the atmosphere became tense and the team started to feel the pressure, but they continued to demonstrate teamwork and resilience.
Whilst Team Worplesdon was not placed in the top 3, they showed impeccable behaviour and our school values . They came away with a participation medal and a desire to do better next time!

SPORTS NEWS
Our Year 6 girls' netball team competed in a tournament at Surrey Sports Park this week, playing six matches in total. Whilst the team did not win the tournament, they demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and technical skills throughout the day.
The team showed strong technical ability throughout each game. All matches were close and competitive, reflecting the team's ability to compete at a high standard.
Several coaches from competing schools took the time to comment positively on Worplesdon's enthusiasm, resilience and teamwork, supporting each other on and off the court.
Captain Nyah demonstrated excellent leadership skills throughout the tournament, setting a positive example for the team.
The team will continue to build on today's experience in preparation for our next match against Queen Eleanor's.
Well done to all players for representing Worplesdon Primary School so positively.

Year 1 children at Worplesdon, enjoyed a rare sunny afternoon at Forest School.
We looked for signs of spring and found many to talk about including crocus flowers, catkins and buds on trees. Many children found conkers and acorns that had started to sprout.
These we planted into small pots to take home and look after, hopefully we will watch them grow into small trees!
We also had great fun in the mud kitchen. Due to all the recent rain there was plenty of mud and water to use! The school kitchen kindly donated a giant saucepan, so we were able to make a hot chocolate fountain and enjoyed making lots of other tasty treats.
