The younger children at Hazel Avenue have enjoyed their trips to the park, challenging themselves climbing and having fun pushing their friends on the swings. 🛝

On the way back to nursery we always see lots of squirrels and then go to find the ducks on the pond. 🦆

The children have been keen to collect the conkers and pine cones to take back and use in the mud kitchen or home corner. 🌰

Have a look at our new outdoor ALD Boards! 👀

Aided Language Display (ALD) Boards are used to help children communicate by pointing to the symbols that resonate with them. 👈

At nursery, we have them everywhere to support the children access learning in all areas, such as water play, in the garden and through our occupations such as clay and block play. Now they’re outside too! 🌳

They’re A1 sized and placed around the garden in areas such as gardening, the sandpit and even one with phrases such as “Ready, Steady, Go!” and “Wow!”.

Please feel free to come and have a look at them at both sites.

Here is Debbie demonstrating the Makaton sign for 'more'.

This is a common sign used in nursery and is great for helping children learn to request things.

Our staff model this sign a lot at snack time and the children do a great job of using it themselves, even saying the word as they sign it! 🥰

The older children at Hazel Avenue have explored making marks with a variety of media including paint, chalk, pencil, crayons, paint sticks and stickers. 🖍

It has been wonderful to see how creative the children have been, when experiencing using different materials. 😍

Enrol in the Nurturing Programme at Guildford Family Centre and find out how to get the best out of family life.

Their next course starts on 2nd October at 9:30am and runs weekly for 10 weeks (with a two week break for half term).

This tried and tested support programme helps us think about what we do, why we do it and how it makes us feel.

The older children at Hazel Avenue have been busy exploring autumnal treasures this month. 🍂

Tess kindly brought in her conker drill, and the children had a go at drilling a hole into a conker. It took a bit of patience and perseverance but brought a lot of satisfaction when a hole was made! 🌰

This activity is just one of the ways we are introducing woodwork to the children. 🪚

We have been enjoying the sunshine in the garden in the afternoons at nursery. 🌞

At Hazel Avenue, Kelly brought out some coloured wool and encouraged the older children to find a stick. She tied some wool to the children’s sticks and they also had a go at wrapping them with the wool. 🧶

Some children turned them into wands and others made a special decoration to share at home. 🪄
