I was lucky to get away for a silent retreat weekend (far too short, I didn’t want to leave! 😮💨) It reminded me of how vital stillness is to me. The art of slowing down, creating space and being able to listen more deeply to myself and the living world beneath the noise of everyday life.
I spent a lot of time walking and sitting in nature, enjoying the stillness and aliveness that pervaded me and everything around me 🌿.
With heightened senses and a quieter mind, everything became more vibrant and real - every leaf a miracle. Nothing is ordinary if we slow down enough to mindfully perceive with more clarity. The Einstein quote above captures this perfectly - he knew!
Mindfully cultivating this felt sense of connection is key to shifting us out of our habitual distracted and disconnected state. We move towards a deeper relationship with our world so we can build inner resilience and take conscious action - vital in these wild times.
How do you find stillness in the craziness? It’s something we explore a lot in my classes so come join me 😌.
And if you’re in the UK heatwave, look after yourself & put out water for the wildlife….

Want to create some space in your mind & release tension?
When we’re stressed or overwhelmed, the mind can slip into “tunnel vision,” interpreting our experience through the lens of the Three Ps. Thoughts become:
🌱Personal -“this is all about me”, “this is my fault”, “there’s something wrong with me”.
🌱 Permanent - “this will never change”, “I’m stuck like this forever”
🌱 Pervasive - “everything is ruined”, “I can’t think about anything else”
Repetitive thoughts like this can create tension & affect our mood
Mindfulness helps loosen that grip by creating space between us & our thoughts. Instead of automatically believing every story the mind tells, we can pause, breathe, & observe with curiosity. Unlike some approaches, we don’t try to replace our thoughts with different ones. Instead, we create a more spacious perspective where we can take things less personally, see them as temporary rather than permanent, & as specific rather than pervading every aspect of life.
Loosening the grip of unhelpful thoughts sounds simple but it’s not always easy because these thought patterns have often been running for years. But it can change with commitment, and give us more space and ease.
Which of the Three P’s do you recognise most?

Are you judgemental? (If you think you’re not, you’re probably not looking closely enough 😉😅)
As I became more aware of my mind through mindfulness practice, I also became more aware of my judgemental thoughts. Most of us spend our lives subtly judging - whether it’s self judgement (e.g. there’s something wrong with me, etc.), judgement of others, or judgement of circumstances (e.g. if only it was quieter, etc.)
The key to start to soften judgement is to become curious instead. Curiosity has been a game changer for me.
Here’s how:-
1. Notice the thought - Gently recognise: “Ah, a judgmental thought is here.”
2. Pause and breathe - Take a moment without trying to push the thought away.
3. Observe with curiosity - See the thought as something passing through the mind, not a fact you must believe or act on.
4. Redirect - focus on something interesting in the present moment. This could be sounds, looking closely at something soothing, paying attention to how your feet connect to the ground, etc.
This helps create space so the thought has less power and more choice becomes possible. Which brings more ease to our experience.
What’s your experience with judgement & curiosity? 🤔
