❓ How can senior leaders develop humility versus arrogance?

At the recent UK Church Administrators Network (UCAN) conference, I was invited to join a panel and was asked this deceptively simple question.

I began with Rick Warren’s (A purpose Driven Life) reminder:

“Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less.”

Humility does not mean denying our strengths, diminishing our contribution or pretending we have nothing valuable to offer. It means being secure enough in who we are that we do not always need to prove it.

Perhaps it is about using our influence in a way that makes more room for others.

What helps you remain grounded as your leadership responsibility grows?
