Sensei Georges Dussart, 6th Dan Shotokan Connect, is joining the SHOTORAMA roster fo rthe first time! This is super exciting.
After two sessions with Sensei Terry O'Neill (then a second dan) in 1969, Sensei Georges was hooked on Shotokan Karate. Since then, he has trained every week for over fifty years.
Sensei Georges' Shodan was conferred by Enoeda Sensei. His first four dan grades were awarded by the JKA, his fifth dan by the KUGB and his sixth by Shotokan Connect. Sensei Georges started teaching karate in 1971 at Salford University. As he moved round the country, he founded three clubs — Haltwhistle (1975-1980), Canterbury Christ Church (1980-2019) and Canterbury Sochin (2019 — present).
Sensei Georges is fascinated by the philosophical aspects of karate, particularly Zen. He is also interested in the processes involved in teaching karate and was involved in producing instructor qualifications for both the KUGB and Shotokan Connect. His examination of the nuances of movements, how they're taught and the impacts of all of this on health, wellbeing and self-defence informs his practice. This thoughtfulness makes a session with Sensei Georges particularly interesting.
