I have long held the view, that Wing Chun was originally a system of combat designed for weapons system using Chi Sau, specifically for the Twin Knives. However, this function has become obsolete in modern times, and as a result, Wing Chun has reverted back to an unarmed Kiu-Sau system, whereby additional control afforded by sticking is not required to be effective. All the signature moves in Wing Chun, such as the B**g, Pak, Lap, Fok, Huen, Bil etc., were essential when wielding the Twin Knives but have far less practical relevance in Unarmed Combat. This is also why, in part, many modern lineages only consider the function of Chi Sau to be a drill to develop sensitivity rather than a combat method.
Wing Chun Sil Nim Tao - The Internal Path Videos and Discussion
This is a support page for those readers who have any questions after reading my book Wing Chun Sil
In this next chapter I will be gradually sharing more in-depth detail into the mechanics of Kiu Sau or Bridging Arm and how it directly relates to weapons training. There are always a minimum of several layers ( outside of Speed and Power) in every aspects of Bridging. As a result there far more depth than what can ever be seen externally. Due to changing environments, whenever we evolve a Bridging system more akin to say Kickboxing then many of these details will inevitable be lost along the way. This is an extended clip from class where I am explaining why we use Kiu Sau in Wing Chun.
From the many years of research and insight into the Ip Man Wing Chun, system I have concluded that this enigmatic Kungfu system was designed primarily to function as a Weapons System operating with an Internal Engine. This however I accept is not a widely held view among the larger Wing Chun community. Many view Wing Chun as an unarmed combat system, but I present that this is only the case, because modern practitioners have adapted it to be one. I would like to say that I have no deliberate intention to offend or to offer criticism to the wider Wing Chun community and I am always grateful to those who have supported my views. I have already presented my views on the Internal engine in Wing Chun in my 1st book released in 2015 and I will present the idea of Wing Chun as a primary weapons system in an upcoming 2nd Book. titled Wing Chun - Baat Jam Dao - The Final Chapter. In the meantime I will continue sharing new material in videos to support my views.
This will probably be my last vid. before the holidays. As requested by one of our members, here is a clip introducing our 'Chi Sau-Sticking Hand' training using the 'P**n Sau-Interrogating Hand' platform. In this session, I am showing the beginners our 'Dan Chi Sau-Single Sticking Hand' training drills using the bridging combination of the Tan-Fok-Wu. In the Wing Chun SNT, there are two such bridging combinations, these being the Tan-Fok-Wu and Wu-Fok-Wu.
