Working on an AR game is a unique experience. Merging reality with fantasy, creating a hybrid world that is both virtual and tangible, bringing the game to life through physical elements like the board and cards, all these are technically tough to accomplish but truly bring a one-of-kind player experience!

Not only is it unique, it will help players improve their wellbeing and teach them valuable skills that support mental health, all while having a blast!

Our crowdfunding campaign is nearing its end, so please help us with this last push to make Dragons of Afterlands a reality! Please visit # # link to back us!

As our crowdfunding campaign roars on, here are a few words from Sam, our Lead Artist, about his experience working on our new game, Dragons of Afterlands!

“I hate to admit it but I wouldn't call myself a board game enthusiast. However, I've often wondered what a board game with virtual components would look like. I've never seen that before, which is what excites me to be part of this project.

We're exploring uncharted territory with this product which, I'm always up! It’s different yet familiar at the same time, and it looks great!

Being part of this indie team gives me so much room to experiment and explore alternative ideas compared to bigger AAA studios, where responsibilities and creative input tend to be more restricted and limited. Not to mention working with a fantastic team, talented and down to earth, which makes this job so much more fun!”

One of the biggest challenges with Dragons of Afterlands has been getting the board tracking right. What we’re trying to do is more ambitious than your usual augmented reality game! As well as bringing the board to life in 3D, we need to know exactly which tile each player is standing on at all times.

This has involved a huge amount of collaboration within the team, with programmers, artists and game designers all working together to come up with solutions that work within the constraints of our augmented reality system.

While it’s been hard work, it has also been very rewarding and has helped us grow as a team. We’re excited to see the final product come together and really appreciate your support.

Meet Sam, our Lead Artist. He is the artistic mind behind all Dragons of Afterlands visuals, from the monsters and dragons to the environments and board itself. Hear what he has to say about the monumental task of creating an entirely new world from scratch! We’ve even included some sketches Sam worked on to support the creative process!

“When I began developing the characters for this game, I had a clear idea of what I was looking for: something that combined the bright colourful chunky shape language of World of Warcraft with the upbeat and inviting feel of Disney or Pixar.

Working on DofA, I was in charge of designing both the peripheral elements, such as backgrounds and environments, as well as what the characters and creatures would look like.
This is a daunting task, but also a rare opportunity for a single artist to develop nearly all the visuals for a game.

I seized this opportunity with both hands, as this was the sole reason for me to become a Concept Artist for the game industry in the first place. I have thoroughly enjoyed creating this game so far, and we have only just got started. With your help, we can make sure this game reaches his full potential.”

Please help Sam create more enchanting characters by supporting our crowdfunding campaign: https://igg.me/at/afterlands

You could even work with him to develop and name your own character in the game as a reward for your support!

Now that the campaign is officially underway, here is a behind the scenes testimonial about filming our crowdfunding video, as witnessed by Jamie, one of our amazing artists and one-time actor for the video shoot!

“Greetings from the Afterlands! We sweated a lot shooting this promotional video on the hottest day of the year! But as always with PWFL, it was a joy to be a part of. The laughs in the video are real! I think we’re all very proud of what the team has accomplished and are eager to show it to the world and get Dragons of Afterlands into people’s hands and homes for people to play any time, regardless of the temperature!”
