Do DofE - The Duke of Edinburgh's Award 28/04/2024

We are very proud to offer our students the opportunity to complete their Bronze The Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

We introduce our students to the scheme in year 9. The students who choose to take part begin working towards their Bronze award with our wonderful staff volunteers.

Bronze award involves 3 months Volunteering, 3 months Physical health and fitness, 3 months building Skills, and a further 3 months of one of their choice. Working towards a 2 day 1 night expedition in year 11.

The DofE Awards inspire young people to develop initiative and a spirit of adventure and discovery by planning, training for and completing an adventurous self-sufficient journey as part of a team. Participants choose and plan where and how they want to do their expedition.

A DofE Award is not just a prestigious Award much desired by colleges, universities, and employers. It’s recognition of the huge effort you’ve put in to doing it, the people you’ve helped and the skills you’ve learnt along the way. Be proud. You’re an Achiever!

Year 9 students who graduated from the Brilliant Club, were at Reading University yesterday celebrating their hard work. They spoke to University Ambassadors, had a tour and learned tips on how to apply for University before receiving their certificates. Added to this, Sam took to the stage to explain what he had learned about neurodiversity in an inclusive society as our spoke scholar.

Students thoroughly enjoyed themselves throughout the day, which included the sampling of bubble tea at lunch.

Well done to all.

It has certainly been a busy morning here at Christ's College. We started with our running club, followed by our Duke of Edinburgh students leaving for their training expedition.

Our Year 11 Dance students have been working exceptionally hard on their individual performances, which look to be amazing and in Science, students have been undertaking scientific investigations through experiments.

All our Year 11 students are focused on their revision for their GCSE's, which are now underway.
I hope all in our community enjoy their weekend, when it arrives.

Our Bronze The Duke of Edinburgh's Award students have set off on the first day of their training expedition this morning. All are very well prepared and ready for the challenge ahead.

We are hoping the weather will be kind, with just the right amount of sunshine and shade 🌤 and look forward to hearing all about it.

Today was our second day of running club, starting with those important stretching exercises to warm up.
What a huge success with lots of new runners joining us and completing a 3km run. If any student wants to join, just turn up by 7.30am on Friday morning ☺️

At Christ's College, we run the Young Talent Programme, which is based around mentoring. If you know of anybody who would be interested in becoming a mentor, please do use the contact details in the image below:

Our Inter-house photography competition has drawn to a close.
Points were awarded for each vote, and this time it is Austen House who took 1st place - well done Austen.
The results are as follows:
1st - Austen
2nd - Redgrave
3rd - Sibley
4th - Turner

Thank you and well done to everyone that took part.

Just a reminder for Year 11 that we have a study room available for you to work in after school.
Please make the most of a quiet, focused environment for your revision.

Year 10 geographers completed some river fieldwork in our local area at the river Tillingbourne yesterday. We were looking at river processes and features, and how a river changes as it moves downstream. We had a cork race did a river walk, and measured the width, depoth and velocity at three places. This helped us understand river flow. It really brought our classwork to life, and helped us make sense of our geographical landscape.

7.30am saw the start of our new extra-curricular club today. 18 students from all year groups joined staff in a morning run, before the school day began. All thoroughly enjoyed this and will be looking forward to the next run.

We need your help! 🫵🏼

The Friends of Christ's College are fundraising for a crucial canopy to enhance the school's outdoor area.

This canopy would allow students to enjoy the outdoors year-round, shielding them from the ☀️sun on hot days and 🌧️rain on wet ones.

☹️Unfortunately, the school's current budget doesn't cover this expense.

So we're reaching out to parents and local businesses for sponsorship to make this project a reality. Given the growing focus on youth health and wellbeing, having a weather-resistant outdoor space would greatly benefit everyone.

Every donation, large or small, brings us closer to our goal. We appreciate your support and contribution. 🙏🏽

Congratulations to our outstanding students recognised by Mrs. Hatch with a Core Values Badge for their exceptional conduct and support at the Careers Fair on Tuesday! They exemplified the values we cherish at our school. Well done, everyone!

On Wednesday we took our Year 9s for a tour around the London Stadium, home to West Ham United. We got the chance to go into the hospitality suites (where tickets can cost £800-£900 on match days), compare the home and away changing rooms as well as go pitch side. We found out lots about the history of the club and all the work that goes into the running of a Premier League club. The students were all fantastic and it was a day enjoyed by all.

The groups swapped over at lunch and also got a walking tour of Docklands.

In enrichment day this week, our Year 10 students covered emergency first aid. This included: the recovery position and CPR, how to use a defibrillator and where you can find them in Guildford town centre. Also how to help someone choking and the Heimlich maneuver, what to do if someone is having a seizure (epilepsy), if someone is in anaphylactic shock and if someone is having an asthma attack. Finally what to do if you have cuts and wounds (clean the wound, bandage it, secure the object if stuck in the wound).

In the afternoon, students were able to visit the careers fair and ask a range of questions.

Mrs Milne (Progress Leader for Year 8) has said how amazing our students were yesterday in their Retreat Day. We would like to thank the churches in Guildford for all they put on for our students. There were so many church staff and volunteers (in all three churches) who provided great input and invested so much time to the day.

Thank you to Send Therapy Rooms for sending these pictures through from today:

We have had an extremely busy day at school today, our third enrichment day of the year. This includes visits to the Science Museum, a retreat Church walk, the London Docklands and Stadium tour. In College, we have been teaching our Year 10 students first aid as well as educating life skills, such as household finances. One additional superb event is our Careers Fair. The opportunity to talk with many organisations and businesses has been embraced by our students and we are grateful to all those who have given their time to support us. We will be updating as images come in...
