💚 Reflecting on our nursery environment 💚

Throughout the summer, we reflected on our nursery environment and considered how we could make different areas more accessible and engaging for everyone.

One thing we noticed was that our staff board was positioned inside the nursery, meaning it wasn’t really accessible for everyone to see. So, we decided to take it outdoors! 🍁🍂🌿

Now our staff board is somewhere where everyone can see it, creating a lovely little talking point for children, parents and staff alike.

It’s also become a great conversation starter, encouraging children to recognise and talk about the familiar adults who help make our nursery such a special place. ❤️💛

Room on the Broom Story Sack 🧙🏼‍♀️🧹

This week, we are excited to introduce one of our brand new story sacks that will enhance our books of the month for October.

Our goal is to share these sacks with as many children as we can during the month.

On Wednesday, one of the children came to nursery talking about X-rays and doctors. This lead to a fantastic morning of in the moment learning, following the children's lead.

We talked about X-rays and looked at some printouts to spark our discussions. This inspired the children to set up their own hospital in the nursery, where they took turns caring for each other, putting on plasters, and comforting staff. It turned into a lovely, spontaneous learning adventure, and everyone had a great time joining in, even the staff! ❤️💛

As we bid farewell to September and embrace October, we’re excited to share a fresh collection of fantastic books for the children!

This month’s stories include:

Throughout the week at nursery, we have continued our "All About Me" theme!

We have been:
❤️ Creating handprints using clay by rolling it out with our arms and hands before pressing down firmly to make prints. We compared the sizes of our handprints with those of our friends.
💛 Learning about different types of houses, including bungalows, flats, and caravans. We examined the shapes and sizes, noting differences in height, brick colours, and the number of windows. We then used Lego bricks to construct our own homes.
❤️ One evening after tea, we utilised the tap-a-shape boards to continue building our homes, learning to use hammers and small pins safely.
💛 We concluded the week by drawing ourselves, reflecting on all the things we had learned about ourselves.

Alongside dancing with Miss Alex, Forest School with Emma, and football with Sonnie, we have had an incredibly busy week filled with so many learning opportunities. ❤️💛

Thinking & Talking Shelf ❤️💛

This week, we’ve been introducing the children to some of the special items from our Thinking & Talking Shelf . These items are carefully chosen to spark curiosity, encourage conversations and inspire lots of questions!

This week, we explored the record player that Emily kindly donated to nursery. The children chose a record from the shelf and had such a wonderful time listening to the music.

They were fascinated watching the record go round and round, and they even had a go at changing the speed and listening to how this changed the music!

It was lovely to see the children so engaged and excited to explore something a little different. There were lots of smiles, observations and conversations along the way! ❤️💛

Yesterday, we brought out our plastic threading shapes that have been a favourite in nursery for many years. Their rigidity has been excellent for supporting the children's fine motor development.

We ordered some new coloured shoelaces to complement the shapes, and the children had a wonderful time matching the colours with the shapes and threading the laces through the holes.

This activity kept the children engaged for an extended period, with them patiently waiting for their turn and sharing with one another exceptionally well.❤️💛

Today we welcomed Miss Alex to start our Musical Melodies sessions again. We chose a different day this term to ensure that all children are able to experience these wonderful sessions and we had a great time with the parachute, glasses and shakers. ❤️💛

We've had a fantastic week in nursery exploring our theme, "All about me and my friends." Building on our plans from Monday and Tuesday, we used smaller mirrors to examine our facial features closely and noticed how we differ from our friends. This led to some fantastic drawings of ourselves in the mirrors!

We've been able to introduce lots of learning through these simple activities, connecting them to various areas of development.

We are looking forward to next week's plans where we will be using clay to make our handprints and compare sizes with each other ❤️💛
