Here at St Martin’s we know how much joy can be sparked from the pages of a book… today, our Year VI librarians have been sharing stories with our infant pupils in the new infant library. It has been wonderful to see a love of reading shared between the key stages. We are so proud of our young readers 📚

It is our first day back after the Easter Break, and our pupils in Year One have been busy learning all about the plant life cycle 🪴 we each chose our seeds and planted them in our outside classroom. Well done everyone 🌱 we certainly have some budding horticulturalists in our school!

Our older pupils have had so much fun exploring the evolution of the homosapien this week in Science 🧬 we certainly have some budding evolutionary biologists in our Year Six cohort, well done.

Spring has sprung in our Year One Science lesson this afternoon, with our budding scientists embarking on a scavenger hunt as part of their investigation of seasons.

St Martin’s Prep proudly donated to the Centre 4 Urgent Appeal for Ukraine today. Our pupils, parents and wider community have been gathering essential items to help those fleeing war. We’d like to extend a huge thank you to those who contributed, and to the community project that received our donation earlier today.

The children are entered into our kindergarten where individual profiles are in place. An interesting and varied curriculum is offered which meets and surpasses the national requirements. Great emphasis is placed on developing the basic skills of literacy, reading and numeracy in which high standards are achieved and applauded. Junior Department:
All the junior children are taught in the main building. Careful monitoring continues with regular formal assessments taking place. A broad and balanced curriculum is evident including in year 5 timetabled preparation for the local grammar school´s examinations. As they move through the school there is a greater emphasis on specialist teaching, not only in specialist areas such as games/music but by year 5 in the cores of English, Mathematics and Science.

Today, we commenced our Explorer Term Holiday Club. Across the holiday we will be providing themed activities and explorer opportunities in our holiday club with our Prep and Pre-Prep staff, supported by Miss Mills and Mr Jackson. This summer we will provide our usual programme of activities and we will also be working towards the RSPB Wild Challenge Award with all our holiday-clubbers. The Wild Challenge award is a specially developed suite of activities for schools to engage children with nature and provide practical learning opportunities. We will embed this into our activity plans and work towards our bronze, silver or gold status across the holiday.

A huge well done to our explorers today who participated in a bird watch, found nests, created their own and then made bird boxes to take home and continue their twitching 🪺

Yesterday, Year V were all stunned by the beauty of Lincoln Cathedral. It was great to be able to learn about this iconic structure in such an active way. We enjoyed a very informative tour, we spotted the Lincoln Imp, had a wonderful time in the Discovery Centre and created the most outstanding stained glass window inspired by both the stories we heard in our educational inputs, and our own school community.
