On this super summery day, our smallest Otters (and the staff!) could not be more grateful for the timing of our Maths unit on measuring capacity with water!!π
We investigated measuring in halves and quarters in the cool shade first thing this morning, and all enjoyed the excuse to cool off with a good splash!

Our year 5/6βs had brilliant afternoon on Friday Orienteering with the expertise of Brian and David from Halo. North Thoresby and Utterby were joined by Grainthorpe and Greenwich House. They learned how to use a βdibberβ - did a lot of running and are ready to take on the next Map reading challenge!!

Breaking news from Otters Press - 'Secret Seven Save Stolen Silver!' Inspired by our book, 'Secret Seven and the Old Mill', Y1 Otters wrote our own newspaper reports onto our very own special publishing templates. We are so proud of writing progression across this year - you have wowed us, little journalists.

What conditions does a seed need to germinate? Otters set up an experiment to investigate in Science today! We ensured a fair test by providing our seeds with the same size pot, same amount of soil, and same amount of water. After potting our seeds, we then decided to test how well our seeds grew by changing the condition of sunlight for growth, with Set 1 seeds sitting on the sunny windowsill, and Set 2 seeds being locked away in the 'deep, dark, teacher cupboard'! We'll keep a seed diary over the next few weeks to record of our observations!

Squirrels are learning about and taking care of some new plants. From borage and garlic to marigolds and sweet peas (my favourite!)
Thank you Linda! π»π

π Railway Safety with Otters Class π
Today, Otters Class joined an engaging online assembly that brought the important message of Railway Safety to life through interactive discussions and activities with a Rail Safety Ambassador.
Afterwards we shared tips for staying safe around the railway. We also helped spot potential hazards as we followed Suzi and her Mum on their journey, learning how to make safe choices every step of the way.
To celebrate our fantastic participation, we all received a Switched On Certificate at the end of the session. Well done, Otters Class, for being such thoughtful and safety-conscious learners! ππ

Y1 Otters are really enjoying some alfresco Maths lessons this week for our unit on 'Measure: Capacity and Volume'. Today, we put our knowledge of halves and quarters into practise, marking a container into four equal parts, and using a chosen unit of measure (a glue stick lid) to see how many units were needed to fill the container to 'almost empty, one quarter full, half full, three quarters full, almost full, and full'. Super recording skills also in keeping a record chart of our investigations.

Thank you so much to families and friends of Squirrels and Otters classes for joining our Learning Share this afternoon. As always, it's so special to see you in school and share all of the wonderful things our children have been doing with you, with lots of laughter and chatter along the way. We hope you had as much fun as we all did! # # #

Today, the Otters Year 1 explored capacity by directly comparing two containers. Using water and a variety of containers, they investigated which held more and which held less, making predictions and testing their ideas through practical learning.
Fantastic teamwork and mathematical thinking from everyone! π§β

Squirrels had a wonderful visit to Louth Library this morning.
We enjoyed a fascinating talk by 'The Bee Lady' (Louise), sampled some different honeys and coloured a beautiful bee bookmark!
Thank you Louise and Lincolnshire Libraries
