Giant hogweed (aka giant cow parsley) is a fairly common plant in the UK, but did you know it is a toxic plant that can cause severe skin blisters*, burns and even blindness?

Toxic components in the leaves, stems, roots, flowers and seeds can be transferred to the skin by touch, and although these do not cause burning alone, they make skin sensitive to sunlight, which can then cause rashes, burns and severe blistering. How badly the skin is affected depends on the individual, but children are known to be particularly sensitive.

NHS guidance is to wash the area of skin with soap and water as quickly as possible and keep it covered.

If a burn appears, treat it as you usually would a burn:

• Stop the burn process as soon as possible.
• Cool the skin with cool running water for 20 minutes
• Cover the burn with cling film.
• Treat the pain from a burn with paracetamol or ibuprofen.
• Raise the affected area, if possible, to help to reduce swelling.

Please see your GP or call 111 if symptoms are severe or persistent.

Father's day activities this morning 🤩 the children have really enjoyed not being restricted to a table and having the choice where to do the activity, we had lots of colour talk and also counting, we also spoke about rockets and space whilst singing the 3 little men in a flying saucer some of the older children asked about planets so we have also looked at those to 👽🚀🛸

The children are loving watching our little or should I say big caterpillars grow not long and they will soon cocoon and turn into butterflies 🐛🦋

I always explain when you first start please don't send your child in beautiful expensive clothing as we love to get messy, please send in your old clothes I promise there is no judgement but I'd rather your child be happy and messy than clean and tidy, or if you don't want to ruin any clothes pop over to my clothing and order your child a couple of tops and grab some cheap leggings or joggers from Primark

My little helper in her new t-shirt this is perfect for summer as it's a cotton top so will keep her very cool, as well as a sun hat that has the neck protection too to keep her safe from the rays ☀️ also rocking the back packs that are also available at my clothing if you would like to place an order you can either place one thought the link and search Levis Childminding or if you would like I can pop one through for you there are lots of options available on what uniform you can pick ect

Just want to re-share this information again!!

And also thank all my amazing parents that had to cancel their priorities yesterday to collect their children I can't apologise enough I had no idea I had Strep A I was told by the chemist I had contact dermatitis only to find out from the doctor it was and I needed to close and inform anyone I'd been in close contact with and close the setting, I will be re-opening Monday as normal

Today the children made a start on their Christmas crafts we used our fine motor skills to peel the backing paper from the stickers and we also used lots of communication about what sticker we wanted to choose and what it was 🎄🎅

As winter is coming and the mornings are getting colder, I wanted to share this.

I didn’t know that we shouldn’t do this at first. I was mortified when someone told me.

We now have a lovely fleecy car seat blanket that stays in the car.
