What is Makaton??

A communication program which uses speech, signs and symbols, a multimodal approach to enhancing communication for children and adults with communication difficulties. Its aids understanding, helps develop listening and attention skills, provides an alternative or additional mode of communication to express wants, needs and choices, which supports reducing anxieties and behaviours of concern.

Makaton is a multi-modal communication program designed to enhance communication, to aid both understanding and expression aswell as reducing anxieties and behaviours of concern... it is used alongside speech so certainly doesnt take away the chance of someone developing speech... far from it... this little boy is now singing to his Dad 🥰👌

2 days, 2 level 1's 🙌🙌 firstly the second group completed Level 1 in the workplace and today a group of 4 ladies began their makaton journey... all for different reasons, some to support in schools, nursery and others supporting adults in community sessions and a parent wanting to make communication easier for their child.
