We are so pleased that the rain has arrived after months of nothing!

Did you get it too? Our plants are actually looking okay, but we did start watering the strawberry plants a few weeks back. I will try to get to the field to show you all soon

The bearing went on the strawberry lifter!

It’s times like this when Toby’s tractor mechanical days come in really handy! He worked out which bearing he needed, popped to Bearing Supplies (Norwich) Ltd and was able to fix it before the lifting season starts 🍓🍓

This week our little boy Arlo has turned 4! He is utterly tractor mad as you would expect, but look at this amazing drawing of our Claas tractor. He is absolutely thrilled with this card!

What a difference a month can make!

These strawberry pots can be brilliant because they lift the plants off the ground away from pests that could nibble them, but in these hotter days need lots of watering.

This customer has had so much fruit of these plants already and is excited to see them grow too!

Sometimes it’s better to be cruel to be kind and that is so true when thinning your strawberry beds! It allows the plant to become more established which means more fruit. Whereas if you leave the runners on it’s putting its energy into that! By reducing the plants means more air flow to avoid rotting and spreading of disease. Followed by a good fertiliser and they are ready for the fruiting season ahead!

Not to mention a great activity to get the children involved with!

There’s been lots of questions about forcing rhubarb and how to do it. So here you go:
You want to select varieties that are suitable for this such as early or vigorous varieties.
Timperley Early is an early season with slender stems that don’t get woody.
Victoria is a vigorous variety from the 1850’s. It can be forced or harvested mid to late season. This has greenish stems!
When the plant is coming out of dormancy you pop a larger container over the top that will stop the light getting in. It continues to grow and produces extra sweet rhubarb stems!
Happy growing

Our strawberry planter was due some new strawberries and you cannot beat bare root for price but also the plants are more tolerable of the change. This is a variety called Vibrant which is known for its long trusses. I am excited to see it overhanging the sides draped with strawberries 🍓 as are the children!

Due to weather beginning to consistently stay warmer we have now stopped selling for this season. This is so we can keep up with the high standards we want all our customers to receive. We so grateful to the customers who have supported us for this past season. If you want to leave us a Google review that will help our small family business grow for the next year, that would be brilliant

Our best seller last spring was the all season strawberry pack which previously included Vibrant, Cambridge Favourite and Florence varieties.

However individually the top 5 strawberry varieties were:
1. Florence - this late season strawberry variety displays its fruit well for easily picking. 🍓
2. Honeoye - extra sweet strawberries from this early season variety. It is well suited to growing in pots. 🌱
3. Rosie - another early variety but this is only grown by our sister company in the uk 🇬🇧
4. Sweetheart - a low maintenance, with a high yield mid season strawberry variety. 🏃
5. Lucy - a longer fruiting period than many with good resilience to rain. A great mid season variety. 💥
