Are children in your setting physically challenged?

Children need regular opportunities to:
- climb
- balance
- crawl
- push and pull
- carry and transport
- jump
- negotiate space
- take appropriate physical risks
- build strength, coordination and stamina

The current guidance for children aged 1–4 is at least 180 minutes of physical activity across the day.

So the question for us as an early years setting is ;

Does our routine actually allow for that much movement?

Our answer is YES as we love to get out & about we are always climbing , running , jumping , exploring.

However are you in a setting where children are spending long periods sitting, waiting, listening or transitioning?

Is all settings offering real physical challenge ie outdoor play or the same climbing frame every day?

And are children with SEND or physical needs getting equally meaningful opportunities to move and challenge themselves?

Sometimes it’s worth stepping back and looking at the day through the child’s body, not just through your settings timetable and challenge the setting to improve.

🍂 Colder Weather Reminder 🧣

As the colder weather approaches, we would kindly ask parents/carers to ensure that your child has a spare set of clothes, a fleece-lined wetsuit, and wellies available at childcare.

We are keen to continue making the most of our outdoor time throughout the colder months, and having the right clothing means the children can stay warm, dry and comfortable while enjoying all the fun and learning that outdoor play brings. 🌧️🍃
