Mhairi - Employability Advisor Working with local businesses to support students into employment.

Here at Learner Development, West College Scotland (Greenock Campus), we support young adults who have often been discounted due to negative experiences in their education related to disabilities, caring responsibilities, care experience, and financial hardship. Most struggle with confidence or lack access to the right training and guidance. What they all have in common is potential - untapped, waiting for someone to believe in them.

That’s where we can make a difference. We offer a variety of courses helping young people get back on track. We work to give disadvantaged young people the skills, mentoring, and opportunities they need to take that crucial first step into work. But we can’t do it alone. We need the support and experience of employers to give students a view into opportunities within their community which can involve college visits from employers, site visits to businesses, unpaid work placements, mock interviews etc. These opportunities give students a genuine experience of the workplace and can help them make decisions about the direction of their futures. We understand time and resources are stretched for many of us, and appreciate any input you can offer. I'd love to discuss any potential scope to link in with employers to support our students. We're looking forward to another positive year working with local businesses and supporting more people into employment. As always if any local businesses are interested in coming on board with us please feel free to get in touch with me for more information. :)
