50,30,20 rule do not work….
It’s not a one fit all rule, this budgeting rule basically just wants you to break down your monthly spending into three parts:
- Needs (Things you can’t leave without)
- Wants (things you definitely can leave without)
- Saving/investments (Things that can make you more money)
So do not stick to the just the 50,30,20 but go through your expenses and see how best you can break down your expenses for you situation. The more you can invest the more money you can make have that in mind when creating your break down.

As a student, finance plays a big part in your academic performance and even your mental health.
Please try to have an healthy financial lifestyle as a student, be more discipline with the little you have, try to make more money if you can without it affecting your studies, delay gratification is something that all students should practice.
Most importantly invest invest invest, nothing is too small. Get some mutual funds, NFTs, Cryptocurrencies etc. So many investment opportunities these days and you can start investing from as little as £20 a month.
