A trip of a lifetime! ✈️ We've just welcomed back the Animal Care Turing students who have had a fantastic time in South Africa at the UmPhafa Nature Reserve 🐆
The group participated in some amazing activities including:

🐺 Feeding of wild dogs
🐟 Fishing
🐃 Road maintenance
🦒 Supplementary feeding
🌱 Alien plant control
🦏 Anti-poaching
🐘 Camera traps
🦉 Visit to the M.L. Sultan Colenso primary school

Meet our Blue-tongued Skink, Bowser! Bowser joined us earlier this year and he's become a favourite in the reptile room due to his friendly and inquisitive nature 🦎

Two male adders fighting?! 😮

We're back on social media! Sorry we've been so quiet, it's been a busy year but we want to start up posts again so you can see all the amazing things we've been up to.

Here are some photos from a recent visit, our L4 Conservation students made as part of their data collection assessment in partnership with RSPB Minsmere. The students were lucky enough to see many amazing species including a very rare sighting of two adders fighting for a female! Other rare species such as spoonbill and bittern were also showing very well.

Today, our Level 1 students went on a trip to Redwings and had an educational tour of the sanctuary 🐴

They learned about the important work Redwings do, met lots of the residents and chose Fox, the adoption star to adopt as a class 🌟

The students participated in some fundraising and donated the money raised to Redwings.

Thank you to the sanctuary for having us today and to our lovely students for representing the college so well 😊

Animal care was very popular amongst the visitors for the Gorelston festival. 🌞
The team were on hand to show members of the public how to health check their dogs and showcasing some of the animals that students on our courses look after as part of their course. 🐕🐾🐱
Today the public got to meet Lemon the bearded dragon, our African land snails, our giant stick insects and Sheldon our baby tortoise. The sun was out out, the local food and drink plentiful and spirits were high!

Health checks 🦎📝
As part of their routines, students complete regular health checks to monitor our animals.
During these checks, we may carry out some routine care provision such as a bath for our tortoise or grooming for our rabbits and guinea pigs 🐇🐹🪥
These are important skills for industry and carrying them out correctly is essential to maintain high welfare standards! ✅

Our time at UmPhafa Private Nature Reserve has come to an end! ✈️ This is no doubt a life changing experience for our Conservation Science students, one that we hope will expand their horizons and inspire them in their future roles. The reserve has touched the hearts of the students and we have made a lot of memories 🇿🇦🦒😊
