🇯🇵 You’re never too young to start learning Japanese!

I currently teach adults and children from age 11+, but that doesn’t mean younger children can’t start their Japanese journey a little earlier.

This is my son, George, who’s 7 and has recently started showing an interest in Japanese. 🥰 So, we’re starting right at the beginning with hiragana, one of the Japanese writing systems and the place I recommend beginners start when learning Japanese. This worksheet is from Tofugu.com which is a great resource for Japanese learning.

At this age, there’s absolutely no need for it to feel like formal studying. A little bit at a time, keeping it fun and following their interest, is a lovely way to introduce them to the language. 🇯🇵✨

If your child is under 11, so not quite old enough for lessons with me yet, but they’re interested in learning Japanese, please feel free to pop me a message.

I’m more than happy to send you some free learning resources, useful links and a few tips on how you can help them get started at home 😊

Then, when they’re a little older, they’ll already have a fantastic head start!

🇯🇵 Kenzie is in Japan! 🇯🇵

Kenzie came to me with a goal, to learn the Japanese he needed as a prerequisite before heading out to Japan to study.

You've worked incredibly hard, constantly pushing yourself and even asking me for extra homework! 😂 You should be really proud of everything you've achieved.

Getting these little updates absolutely makes my day. ❤️

And yes, Kenzie... I'll be checking you're keeping up with that WaniKani. 😂👀🤣🤣

This is why I LOVE teaching Japanese!

One of my students sent me this today after having his first proper conversation in Japanese out in the wild 🐯

THIS is what it's all about! It takes massive guts to go up to a complete stranger and talk to them in their language and that first time you realise, " wait, I'm actually having a conversation in Japanese!" Is such a massive moment.

Safe to say, we were both a little bit excited (excuse the profanity)

Absolutely smashed it Chris Jennings ! Super proud of you, well done! 🇯🇵💪🔥

Every student has their own personalised learning link with vocabulary to practise between lessons as homework — and no two links are the same 😊
My mantra is no drama and no stress, so homework is always optional.

Kenzie has been working incredibly hard ahead of his month-long stay in Japan later this year and has been studying every single day. He managed to get his learning link down from 108 words to just 34 — and the only reason we stopped there was because we ran out of time! 😄

Massive well done, Kenzie! Your hard work is really paying off 👏🔥!

Huge well done to CJ for a fantastic lesson on Monday!!

In Japanese, there are two types of adjectives — い-adjectives and な-adjectives — and they change differently in the past negative (which can be really, really difficult!).

つまらない → つまらなくなかったです 😳🤯

CJ absolutely smashed it — amazing job, well done!!💪💪 🌟

So proud of Aya! 🇯🇵✨

Over the past few weeks, she’s been learning Katakana by herself outside of our lessons to fast-track her Japanese before her upcoming trip to Japan — and today she scored 55/55 (100%) on her quiz! 🎉

It’s been really lovely to see her confidence grow, and I’m so proud of the effort she’s been putting in.

がんばりましたね、あやさん!👏
