Mary Shelley - author of Frankenstein - actually explored this question in The Mortal Immortal (1833), where the uncertainty over how much of the potion was consumed becomes one of the story's central mysteries......This episode is out soon as part of our series. Lots of English students will be studying a gothic unit in their GCSEs or A-levels; be it Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights or Gothic poetry.
