Betty has decided it’s officially blanket season 🐾
Here she is “supervising” in the clinic, and here she is in the front seat of the car with only her nose brave enough to face the cold. The colder mornings are definitely here!
Running a training academy alongside my own clinic means a lot of driving, and Betty is a very enthusiastic co-pilot (mostly asleep).
Do your animals get the cold-weather treatment too? Tell me what yours do 👇

A teaching day, sped up ⏩🐴
This young horse had plenty to say, so there’s a lot of moving about, and that’s exactly what makes it great for learning. Students practise staying calm, adapting their hands and working with the horse instead of against them.
Many owners wait until there’s a problem, but I’m a big believer in treating horses young, as part of looking after them for a long working life. And it’s good for students to practise the moves on animals of every age.
That’s why I teach small groups: everyone gets time with the horse and time with me, so they go home confident, not just informed.
Curious what it’s like to train with us? Send me a message and I’ll tell you more.

A few minutes of Bowen moves on our canine course, sped up. 🐾

And this is the room afterwards. Everyone asleep. 😴

Small, gentle moves, and the dogs often switch off. It’s one of my favourite things about teaching this work.

A week of hands-on teaching 🐴🐶
This week one of our students has travelled all the way from Croatia to continue her Bowen training with us, and it’s been a joy having her here.
It’s one of my favourite parts of running the Academy: people who care enough about doing this properly to travel for it. And I love that every one of them leaves feeling more confident than when they arrived.
Thinking about training, wherever you’re based? Send me a message and I’ll tell you more.

Hello, I’m Lindsay 👋

My journey began 19 years ago, when my horses brought me into Bowen. I wanted to help my own horses, and that took me right across the world. In 2016, my drive to keep learning took me to Australia, where I trained with Lea and Brian Smart.

Today I run Smart Bowen International Training Academy, teaching Bowen for horses, dogs and people. I also see human and canine clients in my own busy clinic, which is why you won’t see me posting endless treatment photos!

What I love most is teaching small groups, so everyone goes away feeling confident. I love watching people arrive on their journey a bit nervous and unsure, and leave at the end as confident practitioners. That’s the feedback I hear most, and it’s the best part of my job.

I’m still finding my feet on social media, so thank you for being here. Tell me about you: do you work with horses, dogs or people, or are you thinking about a change? I’d love to know.

Three ways to train with us 🐴 🐶 🧍

Bowen therapy is the same gentle, precise approach whether you're working with a horse, a dog or a person, but each one is taught differently:

🐴 Equine: hands-on days at the yard, with safe handling assessed throughout
🐶 Canine: hands-on in clinic, and you're welcome to bring your own dog
🧍 Human: relaunching in 2027

Which one are you curious about? Tell me below and I'll share more.

Hello, and thank you for being here 🐴 🐶 🙏🏻

I'll be honest: social media isn't my strong point. I'm a Bowen practitioner and teacher first, and a busy one, so this page has been quiet for too long.

So here's the plan. I'm going to show up properly, a few times a week. I'll share what it's really like to train in Bowen therapy for horses, dogs and people, what we teach and why, and the questions students ask me. No staged before-and-afters, just honest, useful stuff.

We're a small, independent academy, growing steadily and run by real people (I'm only human!). Brian and Lea Smart taught me, and their influence runs through everything we do. Smart Bowen International Training Academy is our own academy, but we wouldn't be here without them, and I bring 19 years of my own Bowen experience to it.

Two of the family: Betty, our unofficial Academy mascot (mostly there to supervise, as you can see), and my own horse Eros. Both are a big part of why I love teaching Bowen.

If you're curious about training in equine, canine or human Bowen, or you'd just like to follow along, we'd love to have you. Follow us, say hello, and tell me: what would you most like to know about training as a Bowen practitioner?

We love seeing stories like this one 💕

Cora’s rehab journey is a beautiful example of how a multi-modal approach can support a horse back to full strength — and we’re so proud that Bowen Therapy, delivered by our own Holly, is part of that picture alongside her water treadmill work.

Bowen works alongside the body’s own healing process, helping release tension, improve movement patterns and support recovery from soreness and injury — gently, without forcing anything. Paired with progressive hydrotherapy like Cora is doing, it’s a powerful combination for rebuilding strength the right way.

If you’ve got a horse recovering from injury, time off, or general stiffness, Bowen Therapy could be a gentle, effective piece of their rehab puzzle. Get in touch to find out more about equine Bowen training or treatments 🐴✨

✨ Cora’s Progress! ✨

Meet Cora 💕 a 7yo, 16hh Connie x ISH who came to us after time off due to a sore back.

Cora has completed:
💦 6 water treadmill sessions
🌊 2 Sea Salt & Oxygen sessions

We started her at just 10 minutes with the water covering her feet, gradually progressing to 20 minutes at mid-cannon. We haven’t introduced the incline yet as Cora wasn’t quite ready. ❤️

The water treadmill has allowed Cora to return to exercise without the weight of a rider and saddle, while the resistance of the water encourages her to engage her core, back and hindquarters and rebuild strength around her previously sore back.

📸 The difference is already clear:
✨ Improved topline
✨ More shoulder and hindquarter muscle
✨ Better overall muscle definition
✨ A stronger, more balanced shape

A lovely example of why rehab should be progressive and tailored to each individual horse, building the foundations before asking them to carry a rider again. 🐴💪🏼❤️

Cora is seen regularly by Holly who treats her through Bowen Therapy! Highly recommend, we absolutely love Holly’s work! 🤩

Well done Cora! 🥰🤍

Really enjoyed being part of this panel with fellow Bowen instructors — always great to connect with others in the profession. With so much AI uncertainty around, honestly, what a great time to train in Bowen! 🙌

Hi everyone,

Something special for you all today: the first panel interview we have done with a group of Bowen Teachers, from different schools and perspectives, all coming together to talk about how Bowen Technique is an AI proof career.

There is significant concern from many people in the world that AI will take a lot of jobs. There are a lot of graduates from various courses that now fear their studies may be obsolete within a few years, and a lot of young people are despondent about the future job market.

Yet all of us as Bowen practitioners know that we have a career for life, one that offers great meaning and purpose, deep satisfaction for offering a great service to our communities and a significant amount of continued professional development, as all of the teachers on the interview attest to.

So dive in and enjoy this exploration of Bowen Technique as a career solution to the changing and uncertain future of careers.
