A busy first day back with years 5 and 6. Lamenting on the seasonal changes and the bounty of rosehips and dried grass heads. Migration, leaves changing colour, dragonflies and their short but beautiful time in the skies We explored some Land Art today, talking about being in the moment , looking and seeing, accepting the ephemeral moment. Whittling Dragonflies, basecamps and prisons and a good amount of just running around and having fun. Quote of the day “ I’ve never done this much with nature before” ❤️

This seemed a fitting activity with our little folk High House Day Nursery with the big changes ahead for some of our lovely preschool children moving on to their new Primary adventures. Always a sad time saying goodbye having worked with them since they were tiny. We loved making our dragonflies, using tools to taper a stick and learning an overhand knot here and there and getting the chance to see a real dragonfly up close. But you cannot overlook the fun using paint and Posca pens. It was also a farewell to our manager Kelly who has been instrumental in the development of our Forest Garden. This nursery has over 2 acres of outdoor space and is looking spectacular despite the drought . If you are looking for a nursery for your little people , you will not be dissappointed ! #

A little behind the scenes at Tipi Woods...

Yurt restoration is well underway! While the Tipi Team were waterproofing and laying the new carpet, the sun shone through the trees, creating this beautiful natural circle of light. A perfect reminder that even the hard work comes with a little woodland magic. Photo credit to Rachel Alger.

Fab couple of weeks at St James Church of England Primary in Harlow. Lots of lovely crafts and sharing of the space today with the Exchange students from China having a taster of Forest School along side their Uk buddies. Nature journeys, Hapa zome, memory sticks were made and a beautiful seedy legacy with muddy seed bombs made and distributed . The grass is being allowed to grow long and already so many flowers and so many butterflies . The children have really enjoyed catching them in nets and identifying them. We even found a Marbled White which was a treat. Giant Spirals to be mown into the grass and plans for autumn tree planting. So lovely to see this space come alive

World Bee Day was celebrated in a big way with the Tipiwood crew . We enjoyed learning about the structure and systems the bees use in their hives. We made some beautiful hexagon art and learnt about tesselations and how bees make their honeycombs . And the children got to see some real honey bees settling in out very own Warre beehive in our woods. Some fantastic woodworking projects were completed including a very sweet cat bed made by two of the children for their new kitten .
As usual we had some lovely food with focaccia bread and garlic butter to end our lovely term .
